Gibson Les Pauls vs Epiphones

I have a 90's MIK Epi LP std. The stock sound was quite satisfying for me already.

Until recently I got my hands on a pair of 57's taken from an SG 61 reissue, has that vintage LP tone now!

The kind of tone you hear from Les Paul's (the man, himself) recording!

bro goose, those that I've encountered:
- shoddy binding work
- fingerboard inlays not smoothly done
- "screeching" when tuning up due to poorly cut nut
- fingerboard wood looked dry and parched (may be due to shop n enviro)
- uneven lacquer on neck

- maybe it was bumped by people who handled aft factory
- dude come on ..its meant for to play and smoothen it out urself
- you heard of 'virgin' screetch ?? 8O
- it looks partched and dry coz you have not been playin it and sweat wettin it bro .... its not meant to be looked at ....you gotta
- ahh ...tell me who is perfect here ??!!... why you blind to choose that one !

oh Dscythe ...we have heard that like a million times !

oh ya

stoopid people .... in action ...and only in New York !! :D

in my opinion, the older epis were defitnitely up there especially the jap models. the korean one is not too bad as well but like some have said here, changing the pickups and some mods works. i have heavily done some mods and changes to my epi black beauty, its still not a gibson but for what it can do now, no one will complain and it works. Gibsons have always been the brand to go after and thats not wrong either, give me one and i will take it with open arms also, but....looking at the price differences, especially in Singapore and the quality of some of the gibsons here, im not so sure the money is absolutely worth it.

at the end of the day, play smthing that you are comfortable with, having a gibby or an epi in your hands does not make or break you.

i just played a MIJ epi and a gibson side by side the other day. must say that wheres a huge difference in sound and feel. the gibson was just excellent but WAY WAY expensive. however the MIJ epi, although it wasn't a gibby, really was nice too and *worth* the cash for it. unless you're really serious, gibson's the way to go. not willing to pay more money for a top notch instrument but still want above decent quality, MIJ epis. and MIJ epis IMO are really underrated. good guitars IMO.

btw was playing through a tube amp which i think makes alot of difference with the pickups and tonewood compared to a shitty practice amp.

just my honest take, but i really dun think Heritage LPs are in the same league as Burny/Orville/Tokai/Edwards. I think even Tokai may not belong there, for the higher range ones.

me thinks if comparing the highest highest end models, the edwards Navigator series would be at the top of the pile. Costs as much as the Historic series by Gibson, and many thinks that they have twice as much tone, mojo, feel etc etc.

Gotta go the japanese esp website to find the navigator series though.

Likewise for Tokai. But not the ones we have here, rather those made for Japanese market. I've the 2006 Jap Tokai catalogue, and the high end LPs are quite remarkable...ultra flamey maple, Honduras mahogany, Brazilian rosewood etc. etc. After converting Yen to SGD, the price range is about the same or more than most Gibson models. I'm sure these expensive Tokais have the mojo to boot too!
