Gibson Les Pauls vs Epiphones

i nvr touch gibson before in my life, so i cant comment on them.
but last year i really regret selling away mine epiphone les paul standard which i got from luthers (1st mic batch i believe, not this year luther batch, the previous year one). it is flawless guitar with really decent fret work done. the only fault i can find is that the lacquer is not toufu smooth, on the back where it is flat top (not curve) can see some lines which is rather normal in manufactured guitars. not really complaining on that but thats the only downside i can spot. anyway the epiphone i used to have, have nice quality pot. the one on display at sweelee, i try turning them, i dont even need to plug in but already feel cheap while turning. of course i did a quick sound to check if any staff is beoing me before i try turning the tone without permission =)

Reth bro, if you have that attitude, you will never buy anything other than your current guitar.
Haha there are people who decide when to get good stuff at strange stages of their playing life. I know this guy who sings through one chord throughout and he's got this Gibson "Lucille" which he plugs into the PA system.

Well been playing 20+ years and i own both Epi's and Gibsons. Older Epis from Japan are best, the new ones from Korea are not too bad but you could invest in new pick ups..(Seymour duncans or Dimarzio super distortion in mine) and eventually some new tuners (schallers in mine)
If you wanna spend 1500 get an edwards or a Tokai or even burny or greco. These guitars are dynamite.
I have 3 gibsons and although i love them to bits, i usually reach for my edwards jimmy page or john sykes...why? half the weight!!
Its all personal choice though as well as financial. It's hard to beat a good, well set up Epi with super distortion pu's

buy epi and change to high end pu(try bare knuckle pickup) and it will kill your expensive gibson, but of course you must live with the non gibson headstock

For one, its definately is just the Brand name~ your paying for a Gibson.
For the Epiphone, THe Elitist series is actually pretty awesome, i tried out my cousins and its "just" like any other epiphone.
But if you were to compare it with a Gibson, i cant really pinpoint the difference~
so that makes this post quite meaningless :arrow:

This is an awesome korean branded Les Paul replica. Not exactly expensive too at MSRP 395 Euros which is around SGD 812.50 or so.
Heritage is good too but I don't dig the headstock. If you look around Gibson isn't the only company that can make a proper les paul.

Ahh, I infer that the Burnys and Orvilles and Heritages are superior to the Epis.. Any idea where I can try them out? Id really appreciate it

wonder how many here into epi other offering, like their hollow body or certain model which gibson dont have.
Seem like most of the comparison still within model like LP, sg etc

Pathein, very few dig Epiphone's original models. The reason why they are even successful is because of the Les Paul models.
Majority of the people have always thought of Epiphone as a cheaper Gibson, and not a company with a product line of its own.
That is sad because, some of Epi's original designs are amazing. Especially one semi-hollow body I tried at Sweelee.. What warmth in that guitar! I could feel it before plugging it in

just my honest take, but i really dun think Heritage LPs are in the same league as Burny/Orville/Tokai/Edwards. I think even Tokai may not belong there, for the higher range ones.
Any Heritage LP owners can comment on this? I'm only saying the above based on what I've read, and my own experiences. I cld v well be wrong.
I own a Heritage LP custom, and I'm really really impressed. Never felt so comfy on a LP before, and it sure sings.

after numerous experiences with Epi LPs, yes there are some that play real well. if u throw in hotrodded boutique or what not pickups, definitely can rock out on it. its possible.
what is abt gibsons (especially LPs) man? the way the axe holds its notes. that control, the reaction to the note. freaking mojo in their built. losfer words.... of course its just a brand with a steep price tag. im glad not to have encountered any of those 'badly' made ones.
