doesn't make any sense at all. and yeah i agree that the celebrity users are a factor in a buyer's decision, heck that's why most websites have an "artist" section. it's also the main selling point behind signature guitars, which brings us back to the slash signature. that's why squier makes guitars like the avril lavigne telecaster. i doubt people buy it because they want to get her "tone".

Lol.. Keep this discussion PG please! Hahaha..
Eh.. Her "tone" as in her guitar tone or her.. Ermm.. Her tone? HAHA :mrgreen:

i don't think I wanna know "her tone" means. back to slash.. i was talking about the telecaster by the way, those things are comfortable :)

the cost of this couldn't get you half an esp custom shop, sadly.

sure anot.....i went to davis for a quote and with the specs i listed and all, it came out to around 5K.....slightly more or less. heh.

Still owns Gibson's ass anyday.

maybe gibson price these pieces so highly due to exclusivity.so that not everyone will be able to get it and it will be more special to the owner.the esp custom shop each time only produces a few guitars, and each one is different.so special attention is paid when making it, that explains the high QC that usually come with them. Gibson and other brands produce thousands and thousands of guitars each year, and there are sure bound to be faults somewhere during production of several pieces. lets just get back to the topic about the upcoming possible signature guitar range that gibson may come up with, and not just bombarding gibson with all these criticisms.

really?? i was under the impression that the esp custom shop was extremely expensive. the last time i sent in a quote it came up to be about 6000usd. oh well. if it does cost the same then I would take the ESP anyday too. and I think the only reason gibson prices are high is money. its reputation allows them to sell guitars even at their sky-high prices, and they're raking in the cash doing so. actually that's what every company does. find me a company that makes instruments to bring music and joy to the people, without making profits at the same time. it's all just marketing, and this is just gibson cashing in on all the slash-mania caused by guitar hero and whatnot.

Isnt this all about preference.. Like if i prefer a Jackson RR5 compared to Gibson's flying V, Ill take the RR5, or maybe cause the V on RR5's nicer? Maybe the RR5 looks more badass? Same from a person who chooses the flying V over the RR5..he sure has to have his reasons for doing so.. Guess most people buy gibsons for that rich warm tone that has turned out to be a classic over the years? Im not sure, I don't own one..

And come to think of it doesn't every guitar brand have definitely some people complaining over this and that.. Doubt theres any " perfect guitar producer " that everyone who has bought has nothing to degrade about.. So.. isnt it all subjective :D

so.. Dean for the win :)

If money wasnt a factor, i will definitely still get a gibson if i wanted a les paul. I've tried copies of the les paul, and some of the lawsuits are really gd. However, there is still that difference in tone.

I guess les paul has nv been mkt as a guitar thats easy to play or has gd qc, ppl buy it for the tone only a les paul can get.

N i rather other les paul guitarist be attributed to it than slash.

personally i am a HUGE GINORMOUS Guns N' Roses fan and a Slash fan..
but after reading the histories of gnr and slash and all the fan stuff,i find it kinda silly to get these sigs...lets see slash said when he wanted to tour,he called up gibson to send him some guitars and wad he got was 2 cherry burst les paul STANDARDs which he put sd alinco pros in and dulled the finish...so lets see again wads the diff in buying a new les paul standard and do wad slash did and the cutstom shop one?i really feel these are to attract fans instead of players..and its just a marketting strategy so no need to bash em..we all need to make a living.

discussion about "gibson good gibson bad" is ALWAYS pointless and a waste of time...

HIMYNAMEISARTHUR, you have an interesting point. to bring it further, Slash piece of honeyburst LP standard was just a regular standard in the late 80s. so if you can get hold of a piece of late 80's honeyburst (USD$1300), slap 2 pieces of SD alnico pro (USD$150?)... WALA!! this guitar is a closer replica than the new VOS (USD$6000).

i dont think thats valid.it will just be differnt.and btw the honeyburst on the vos is slightly different from the normal honeyburst.

hmm actually it isnt honeyburst..its a faded cherry burst les paul..
correct me if im wrong but i tink gibson sold faded les paul standards in the past as well..
so wad i was saying is dat u could buf the paint further to fade in abit, but wad i was saying was from a player's pov, where sound matters most and not the look..

That's actually spot on.

Welcome to the world of luxury marketing. The high prices and the artist endorsements create a desirablility factor. That's one of the hardest things to create in the market. Gibson and Fender both have this concept down pat! Ibanez still has some way to go. It's basically offering something that's nothing much, at a high price. High enough that makes many people go: "well, if it's that expensive, it MUST be good!".

Also how many of us have actually grown up listening to Guns and Roses, and thinking in the jamming studio with a Les Paul lookalike: "I wish I has a Gibson, so I can look and sound as cool as Slash!". Admit it guys... We all go thru that phase...

P.S. Gibson is the ONLY company that makes Les Pauls. Just like Fender is the only company that makes Stratocasters and Telecaster. The others are just copies.

No i wont admit it whitestrat! The first time I saw a Les Paul, I was like, what the f*ck is that ugly guitar? Needless to say, I'm really happy with my current pointy guitars. I used to be a hardcore Ibanez fan but I've converted to the Jackson camp now :D

So I take it something like this would float your boat?

HAHA SHIT yea that is sexy shit. I'm planning on slapping an EBMM neck on a Jackson guitar body once the finances are in order. I love the way those things feel .
