saw this on the gibson and epiphone website today.gibson is launching their new project with Slash on Oct 7 this year.the Slash Les Paul Goldtop.seems the same as the just launched not long ago Slash series, with the flame top and tobacco burst.wondering who and what will be the next stuff coming up?

They are just using the hype made on the games Guitar Hero and Rockband to mass produce and advertise Slash signatures.

Guitar Hero III alone sold 8 million copies... imagine the amount of guitars Gibson stand to sell by putting Slash on the truss rod cover.

as expected from gibson, shitty guitars at shittier prices.

Why the brand bashing? The threadstarter said NOTHING about Gibsons selling shitty products.. Well.. Tell that to the thousands of professional artists using Gibsons..
It's obvious I'll be worked up.. Cause I myself adore Gibsons.. Sure I've tried bad ones.. I've tried bad Fenders as well.. And Ibanez guitars as well.. So DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A BRAND BASHING THREAD..

uh huh ok I'll try not to bash gibson. Though honestly, the build on gibsons for the pricetag... Really makes me question their quality control department. I personally hate PRS guitars, but quality wise, they don't really screw up. Sad because I'd love to bash them for their singlecuts.

quality control problems aside, pick a nice used gibson and chances are it'll sound, look, and play great.

gibson still make great guitars,so are other big players like fender and ibanez. if not you wont see slash, zakk wylde, yngwie, steve vai, john mayer, eric clapton, joe stratiani, paul gilbert, or even the click five use these brands.they are most probably trying to improve them as they move on.there are bound to be some problems in production, nothing is perfect.even porsche engines can burn down, so can Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari. but their msrp is really high, anyway do you see any american guitar shops have those prices as stated on Gibson's website?

the msrp is a recommended retail price / list price. the american shops, and our shops as well sell it at a street price, which is usually quite a big difference from the RRP. also there's supposed to be a total of 12 different slash signature models that are to be released by gibson/epiphone, not counting previous models like the snakepit and dark tabacco burst ones. it's a bit like dean and dimebag imo.

ever heard of the concept of money???

I get his point though.. He wasn't saying that it IS good cause people use it..
He is saying that it can't be THAT bad since a lot of people use it..

Interpretations interpretations..

the cost of this couldn't get you half an esp custom shop, sadly.
plus of course there's such a thing as a bandwagon. but it can't be complete shit if thousands of people around the globe willingly spend their money on it, excluding the endorsees who might just be in it for the excellent money. (coughzakkwyldecough)

I think people who buy Gibson LPs concentrate more on Les Paul tone and maybe timeless classic design. That’s why Les Pauls stay with their current price tags and they still sell. If more and more new iconic guitar heroes play PRS then it will be interesting game to see.

perhaps a majority of customers do buy les pauls because they know what they want? but your PRS point is invalid. who plays the guitar shouldn't be the main factor in buying a guitar. if everyone started playing kapok, would kapok be the biggest guitar company in the world? i sure hope not, even though it would be pretty interesting seeing kapoks with snakewood fretboards and mammoth ivory nuts. :D

That’s right, a good guitar is a good guitar doesn’t matter who plays it. But it influences buyers one way or the other. People look at what their hero plays and unconsciously look for similar one in guitar store until they exactly know what they want. That contributes to sale figures of manufacturers and popularity of the brand. If the guitar heroes from ‘50s to ‘80s play PRS, then Gibson would be in very difficult position.
