Yo guys,

need to find out from you all whether is there a need to adjust the truss rod and re-setup the guitar if i were to change from .009-.042 to .009-.046.

I understand if we were to change from .009 to .010, it will require a re-setup, but if its just 3 strings different in gauge, will there be a need?

Thanks!

technically, it shud, imho, for personal comfort and best performance from your instrument of choice

and it wanna be serious/anal, even the nut can be worked on to have the changed strings sitting in correctly without causing tuning issues that might arise.

but then, if dont want to worry so much, just change the gague, retune, check action, check intonnation, do minor adjustment accordingly and if it doesnt cause discomfort, then its time to rock out again!

it's not quite about the string gauge- it's about how your neck reacts to the change.

thicker neck profiles would not be susceptible to minor gauge switch (assuming you're still in std tuning) eg: Fender. the thinner Wizard necks do react to this, but not the Wizard II (personal experience).

But your guitar is a J Custom right? One of the later, more recent ones right? Don't they come with titanium reinforcement rods? You might not need a neck adjustment.

Anyway, why do you want to up your gauge that way? I find that 9 - 42s feel more "even" in terms of tension and string response across all strings...

Yeap they come with titanium reinforcement. Not i want to up the gauge ah, is brendon send me the wrong strings, lol. So was wondering if it can be use without touching anything, if not leh ceh for him to send again.
