hello. i just broke a string on my floyd rose. and i guess i was being 'smart' by taking out all the other strings. can anyone teach me or help me restring? i dun mind paying a lil. i can buy the strings on my own.

it would help more if u paid ShredCows to do it.

anyway i agree with ShredCows - it's on the Sticky of the How-To section already. do check the sticky out on the How-To forum, as well as the Gear one (which I'm maintaining). Solves a lot of questions.

I'll add a link to the sticky on the How-To section for the Softies convenience. :)

:) Why not?

Had been talking to mudmechanic the other day, and I do agree with what he said: it's just MUCH easier to pay someone to show you how to fix up the guitar, rather than trying out yourself and wasting your time and risking your guitar while doing it.

While your guide has been helpful, it's really different from say, if someone actually saw you in action doing it.

So yeah, my 5 cents of thought on it.

can i off topic awhile?

if u compare original floyd rose vs lo pro edge vs edge pro, which offers the best stablity as well as the stiffness?

tats y im not willing to do it on my own. i risk sopoiling it. haha. i rather someone do it for me and i learn.

Well when it comes to changing the strings on a Floyd, you are best doing it one at a time to ensure that your bridge remains somewhat stable and doesn't get angled too much to one side. I guess it's a bit late then, but if you aren't too confident with what you can find online, then maybe bring it in to a guitar shop here and try get a guitar tech to show you how

wow it does seems pretty scary on floyd rose, consider im getting one very soon. so if i change the gauge of the string, izzit very troublesome? ( changing string one by one )

You're right thor... I did a demo back in the Oct SOFT gathering... only a few ppl where there to watch and learn though. :(

*sigh* speedotenshi, you are lazy. Searching would get you your answers.

OFR vs lo pro edge vs edge pro

OFR is the stiffest.
Edge Pro is slightly stiffer than Lo Pro.
Lo Pro is the smoothest.

All will keep tuning extremely well if you set it up well. OFR's QC is getting bad though.

And guys, if you always change your strings one by one, you'll never get to clean up your bridge. And besides, if you read my post on setting up (not that its the best but...) , using a jammer will make things uber easy.

I duuno about you mates but I always change my strings on my floyd type bridges by detuning them and snippin em all at one go PING! Ouch!

This is really quite a common problem that most new players face when encountering a floating bridge system even on traditional fender type bridges can this problem occur too. I have to agree having read "Mooo's" attempt at describing how to that it can get very confusing and frustrating for a new player especially when one worries after a coupla strings have snapped in the process.

I'm sure there are others who have their own methods like I have mine having used locking bridge and nut systems since the early 90's. Feel free to contact the experts here for a one on one tutotrial. It's worth it in the long run.

Hahaha Randolf! Heh... any new mods up your sleeve? ;)

Hey Mooo! Thanx for the backing track though I've yet to find the time to get time off to track and submit for you guys approval. I've been working on experiments more on fuzzes lately than distortion and overdrives. I'm in the quest for the most rediculous sounding fuzz. Came across one believe it or not by a local inventor who goes by the name Goose. He's got a Fuzz I can only describe as "Velcro Fuzz" hehehe It sounds exactly like a Velcro strip being ripped apart like like...lemme try
"Sssssccccrrrrrrreeeeeeeecccccchhhhw!"

I Lurve it! Or maybe it's the coffee I dunno

What about yourself?

Tweak Fuzz? ;)

I'm ah... erm... waiting to get my baby refretted. :) And working on tapping.. how interesting.

hehe... randolf... check out the Skyripper fuzz if you're interested. (i am, but i don't know electronics well enough to make one for myself! :()

http://www.ampage.org/cgi-bin/sounds/index.cgi?i=30&a=

it's a schematic made by Joe Gagan of Nine Volt Nirvana fame...

Check out the crazy samples too!

Hey Thor, thanks for the link! It's a great site with demos and stuff for reference. I've been very interested in Fuuz tones since I rediscoverd it through the long gone Foxx Tone. It's an ugly but really great for that "WTF" was that kinda sound especially when applied with hopefully good taste and timing in your performance. I've yet to look at the schematic of the 9 Volt Nirvana. Let me know if you have it and I can make special arrangements for you if you'd like one for yourself in the near future. Do keep it coming along the way Thanks again ya!

:D

cool... the skyripper schematic is on the page in any case :)

haha. that thing will probably cost me a bomb to get it done... i'm always having not enough money. (uncle at weelee asked me to change my cheapo MIC power adaptor for fear of blackout that day, so $ going towards getting a 1spot. :()

sorry to hijack the forum a bit... but can an ibanez tremolo unit be replace with other non-ibanez units eg original floyd, schaller?

The ibanez TRS series can be retrofit with OFR or any licensed versions: its routing is just nice but sometimes, just sometimes, you might need to shave off a few mm to fit it in nice. Usually needs routing to fit the Ibanez Edge series.

The Edge/Lo Pro can be retrofit with OFR or any licensed versions because its route is larger than normal.

The Edge Pro, Edge Pro II and Edge III (there was a topic on this, with pics) can be retrofit with OFR and any licensed versions.

In a nutshell, yes. But measure, measure and measure again. I reckon you wanna replace your TRS unit or something?
