floyd rose

oic... wow... u can find a job as a mind reader.. yup... i wanna replace the trs unit with OFR.. since i reckon edge or lo-pro units are not easily available...

Sidetrack question. As usual, I'm a trem noob. Will I gain much by moving from 9s to 10s or should I just stick with 9s.

hydrogencynide - check out the Sticky -> Bridges. There's a lot of info there, including a link to a user replacing an Edge Pro III with an OFR. (offsite link to jemsite). Think the links should help u a lot. :)

Sticky here

*hehe sorry. yep it's an Edge Pro III.

You can. Get either the OFR or a Gotoh Licensed FR or the schaller.

I have retrofitted a Gotoh into a TRS slot before, perfect fit. You might find the Gotoh's trem block a couple of mm to high though and your trem cavity cover might not fit well, but no worries. Easily taken care of.

I would say the Gotoh is your best bet because for the price of SGD250 (w/shipping) you get something that is top notch quality (best of the 3) and very stable.

There's a dude selling an Edge for $120 or somethign on Luther now if you are interested. In some cases, the Edge drops into the TRS slot okay, but in most cases, minor routing will be needed.

oic... thanks shredcow and thor... gotoh for 250....? where can i order from? davis issit? cos i was at guitar connection yesterday and they had i schaller floyd selling for 380... i waz like WTF!!! my as well buy a new guitar...

any comments on zr tremolo? did a search over other forums and found pretty good reviews. yeah heard about the double stops and string breaking stuff. IF i didnt hear wrongly, they did mention that even when the string break or something, it will still stay in tune? i dun really get it. and what excalty is double stop? is that true? any personal experince from u guys.
shredcow u did owned a s520 isnt it? isnt that zr tremolo? but if im not wrong u swap it out right? so hows yr opinion of it?

i actually went to search over jemsite, and found a thread created by shredcow, yeah is that u?

and there was this person said:

Anyway, I think in terms of stablity, the ZR is unmatched. In comparison with the Lo-Pro in my FP, it stays in tune much better. I mean, my Lo-Pro doesn't go out of tune unless I really abuse it but the ZR just wouldn't move a single bit.

its making me excited

If I'm not wrong, Shredcow's S520 didn't have a ZR in it, because it wasn't out then... maybe he can clarify this with you.

Wang, you're right, my S520EX is a 2002 model, it came with an Edge. Now, I didn't swap the Edge out because it was bad, it was jsut that the cosmo finish has rubbed off and it was rusting. I was upgrading my guitar so why stop there? Change the trem too lah! :) I am seriously considering saving up for a chrome Edge again. USD240 methinks. OUCH.

Anyway, the ZR trem is good, apparently VERY good. Its got a built in tremsetter system (google this, more info online) that helps with return to zero point better at the cost of a stiffer trem and no more flutter. Its on a ball bearing system than knife edges so its smoother and less prone to wear.

It should keep its tunnig well, if you break the thin strings.

Double stops as in you play 2 notes on the guitar, and while holding down a note, do a bend with the other. On a normal floyd rose system, its possible to keep the 1st note in tune without bending it too (which FR users all do) and so the tremsetter in the ZR helps.

I'm in Jemsite, Shredcow too. :)

Well, do your research thoroughly... 1 man's comments don't mean much unless its Steve Vai telling you that the ZR is better than the Edge that he has been using all these years. Ask ppl here like Warlock, who owns the new Sabres with ZR trems.

hmm i juz got myself a s470 and i follow ibanezrules, and after changing string i simply juz put in the string into the saddles area and tighten the allen key. after that i tune which take abit of time. after tat i didnt touch the part where there are knots there can be tighten by our fingers. what is that for? i didnt tighten or loosen it ( the gap was close when i got my guitar ) after tat i went to play witht he whammy bar abit and all the 6 string jumped out of the saddles ( it didnt break ). what had i done wrong? izzit before i forgotten to loosen the knots? or? btw i did tighten the nut

another possiblity stay cause i change the guage of string from 0.09 to 0.14, and the bridge probably facing in a 30 degree angle + my heavy pull of string? possible?

if setup proper the bridge should be in laying straight not toward a certain degree? am i right?

is that the problem, then whats the knots that can be tighten by fingers for? i read the user manual but they didnt mention it clearly

oh yeah and btw, u know behind the neck there is 2 screw? yeah in middle between the screw (in the middle position of the screw but lower ), where is actually a small lump, and it seems like the part where the tension rod lay at it. is this alright? its bothering me abit

CLASSICS!!!!

WTH!?!?!

You mean you changed guage from 0.09 to 0.14?

STOP AND DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO YOUR GUITAR. Remove all strings NOW.

Its possible you have damaged your guitar permanantly.

The Ibanez wizard necks can't take THAT much tension at standard tuning AND you will need to have at least 5 springs at the whammy to handle that kind of tension. What where you thinking man?

Bring it to a tech and pray your guitar is okay.

even if u put 5 springs on the ibanez s, i suspect you won't be able to put 0.14s. not even when well setup.

the s series just isn't built for 0.14s.

yeah i removed it, actually it was 0.12 and few lighter gauge mixed around :( mistake mistake my bad. anyway the floyd rose seems really simple, the string over the bridge is juz secure by one ?? (wat is tat call? the part u tighten with allen key?) i always tot the bridge is secure by two of that hmm

A Floyd Rose is simple if you know what you are doing. I think you better bring it to someone who knows to explain it to you.
