Hi all,

Guess this will be my 3rd post after the revamp!!!!

I just came back from gigs in HK and China and my hard plastic guitar case was badly smashed up - broken and cracks at the base. Luckily my acoustic was intact!

Fastforward, I am looking at these alternatives and probably wanna heard what you peeps have to say....

1. Get a 3rd party flight case made of ABS, plywood, or even aluminum!!! Any brands to recommend? ABS or plywood? I heard that plywood is better. Aluminum is too heavy. Should I get those with castors as hauling any hardcase is a nightmare when you dun have crew to do the 'dirty' job for you ;)

2. Get the Yamaha Silent guitar so that I can simply carry onboard and save all the hassles of checking in. There are no insurance company at the moment that will insure musical instrument in Singapore.

3. What guitar do you peeps use when gigging oversea? What flight case do you use and any tips to protect your musical assets when traveling?

Other than case materials, I think you should look at ATA approved flight cases. Those are MEANT for travelling. I believe SKB makes these, as well as some other brands, but these cases are heavy.

yamaha silent guitar would be a good choice, i had the nylon string version which sounded warmer than the steel.

how bout mini sized guitars? j&d makes one with a built-in amp for somewhere around $350?
the only thing mini is its body size, the scale length is 24".
i'll probably get one of them soon.
