Hi all,

Any views regarding this??? also the neck felt wierd when i plays on it... Trying to find out the difference between this 2 gigs....Thanks!=)

I just tried a black Squier with a big matching headstock and a chrome pickguard that was killer in Guitar Connection...

Surprisingly nice to play sia... and frighteningly good tone... Poplar body... sibeh brightz...

I currently have a Squier Standard Strat. I love the neck which is smooth, non-lacquered n sounds like a Strat should. Did a lot of upgrades on it and its now a keeper.

I used to have a Fender MIM before this Squier n tat Fender neck was uncomfortable for me, not smooth at all. Somemore the Fender pickups were kinda weak as compared to the Squier stock ones. Same goes for the Fender Japanese reissues. Honestly, I would have gotten a Fender Japanese strat if it wasn't for the lacquered neck.

I may get a CIJ/MIJ strat in the near future to see if I can get used to the neck n the good thing is its resale value is still close to the retail price :)

Hmmm... just to share my experience... Apart from the fishman piezo power bridge on my MIM Fender Deluxe Power Stratocaster, I can't say that the guitar is any better than my Squier Standard and an upgraded Squier California (neck changed to WD vintage). I play my Squier Standard Fat Strat much much more than the Fender. Especially when using the eBow on the squier standard is just superb, nice round flutish tone. Maybe because my Fender is MIM, of maybe it is just a preference.

i own a few Fenders but it didn't stop me from buying this Squier Tele:

the Squier brand name should be treated in its own right, no doubt it's the more affordable subsidiary brand name of the famous guitar company but treating them the same is not a learned thing to do.

I have a made-in-Indonesia Squier 51. With its wonderful neck and amazing stock pickups, its one of my fave guitars.

The Squiers are definitely value for money. If you're looking for a Strat of a Tele, you should not rule out those from Squier.

I think they are value for money... But like what Sub said, they have to be treated individually on their own... I used to own a Squier before my MIM Fender and the sound is different considering that they are made of different wood(Squier:Agathis, Fender: Alder)

But I find that my squier is more smooth, bassy sounding as compared to the twangy, treblish sound of my fender... So at the end of the day I think Squier is a product of its own even though it's a subsidary of Fender...

get the squier my friend , you could always use the spare cash for modding.

Tuners
Pickups
Input jack to electrocup type
Saddles

its all up to you to customize and make it your very own :)

o crap now after i read this i dunno if i shld buy a MIM Fender or a Squire strat..

my advice would be, if budget is your primary concern, start with the Jap models first because these are great value for money Fenders. if you think it's not your thing, work your way up to get the American models. however, if you think you can live with a Mexican model (these aren't bad at all) because you have considerations for tone/ feel over the country of origin, then there are plenty to choose from.

Fender vs. Squire

In my opinion the best way to compare two guitars and not being bias is to blind fold yourself and test the guitars. Humans tend to be bias with the brands. I have challenged a few guys by telling the difference between DS1(MIJ) and DS1(MIT). None of them could tell me the difference. But if they use the eyes to test them then they would said that the MIJ sounded better and warmer. Try doing it yourself. Good luck.
To me, Squire guitars sound very close to Fender. Also, Fender Japan is better than Fender USA in terms of workmanship.Don't think that made in USA means better quality.Check it out yourself and you will soon find out.

I have a '94 Squier strat that has since been re-colored, re-wired, re-many many things already, but there's a few interesting things I found out while I was ripping it apart over the years.

1. Stock pickups were changed to DiMarzio rails on neck and bridge in '96. It makes a hell of a difference.

2. When prepping the body up for respraying, I found out this MIK Squier was plywood (?!). Since I bought this guitar, I had always found the sustain to be very weak, and now I knew why.

3. Neck cavity was not very well carved, and the original spraypaint was causing gaps in the join, which also affected sustain. I reshaped the neck cavity, patching up some holes and shaving off excess paint, and now sustain is a LOT better.

Dunno if the current stock Squiers are still made this way, but I've pretty much avoided Squiers since. If you have the time, heart and courage to work on the setup in-depth, you'll probably do ok with a Squier (though for that matter, any budget guitar will do).

I fully agree with you man, most people however think that USA means an upgrade over japan cos it comes with upgraded hardware, etc steel trem block while the cheaper cij models come with a zinc block. however cij has an advantage over in terms of pups...the pups equipped often come with better ones that the lacking in chracter USA strats lack. such as fender custom shop texas specials, vintage noiseless and dimarzios. However in terms of workmanship and sound wise, out of the many many strats i've tried CIJ strats are still the most reliable and consistent in sounding great.

I believe you can get a good MIJ/CIJ model, upgrade the necessary parts, and have a better guitar than an MIA and cheaper. Except the thin nitro finishes...

BUT, the Texas Specials found in the MIJ/CIJs are not the CS ones... And the best Fender pups I like most are the CS69s, which you don't even smell on any MIJ/CIJ (or even MIAs for that matter)...

definitely one of the clandestine reasons why it's not made available in the USA...

haha yeah bros....im just giving what i hope is a fair assesment in lieu of the japanese and american makes..... american got advantage in terms of hardware(steel bridges for most except maybe highway ones) , 22 frets for standards and perhaps less laquered necks for those people who prefer. Also a larger choice of finishes i presume.

Japanese got advantage in terms of consistency in tone, workmanship, reliability, pickups (the pups installed are often American ones- as good as their aftermarket siblings) and of course a big advantage in terms of what people define as VALUE FOR MONEY, with regards to prices.
