It has NO effect on the guitar's performance.

Its named ASHTRAY for a reason, it was so useless smokers used it as an ashtray.

i think somebody took my post too seriously..

i've had basses with ashtray covers as well; i know what they are and why they're called what they are :)

Hmm.

Yeah, exactly, because if the threadstarter has no other intention of adding that part to his guitar apart from cosmetic reasons, then I would dissuade him from doing so because:

1. no addition to tone
2. would actually hinder palm-muting
3. damn embarassing if during gig, half-way the part fall out
4. might tarnish
5. you won't have any other use for it, that is if you're not a smoker

and and and keep dust away!! ahahas...changing strings will take more time..u spend 10sec more to take out the ashtray~~ and if u r amoker..u can store those ashes in the ashtry to give the tone more thicker..

*April Fool* !!
hahahaa

Hmm.

Well, palm-muting / chugga chugga is just one of those things that lend to your playing a different sense of dynamics. So rather than inhibit it, why not just leave the option open to those who want to take it?

I can almost see the sweat stains accumulating on the ashtray... 8O

heh, come to think about it, the sweat stain on the ashtray is so much easy to clean than havin the sweat stain on the saddle, in between saddle, saddle screw etc

its cos of the rust on my saddles..quite un sight ly mah so wana cover it..n plus it is an accessory for mia start so tot might be cool to hav one for novelty value..

Hmm.

Dude, for the cost of buying a original replacement part, you'd might as well invest in better, non-rusting saddles.
