FAKE Guitars!!

Hi friends,

I guess some of us know that recently there has been quite a few "replicas" being sold here on soft. Some of you guys may have already been to this site but for the benefit of some who have not, this site has tons of fake guitars. from gibsons, ibanez, fender, gretsch and even epiphone.

Just thought i would help to raise some awareness for those who may not be too sure but it is kinda scary to see so many of these fakes out there and how easily it would be to not realize it.

Here's the link.

Cheers!

hahaha i just saw a lp with spiderman finish!
instead of having les paul's signature on the headstock.. it has the spiderman logo instead! HAHA!

which part? I dun mind if they are fake.. serious.. if we change the pick up.. and it sound great.. why not..

theres loads of stuff that goes into making a guitar besides the pickups bro (i believe thats what LadyInTears was thinking about).

Stuff like quality of wood, bracing, etc.. I presume the neck profiles of the fake guitars are rubbish mainly due to the workmanship.. You'd probably be hearing tons of dead notes, etc..

Well they're fakes anyway, lets not encourage this producers!

I get what u mean. If the neck is good, body good. Let's just change the pickup. Kidding.
Still must get the branded copy. (Tokai, edwards and etc). LOL

If changing the pickups can change the guitar tones, Gibson, Fender,Ibanez etc should have been out of business a long time ago. You got it all wrong ;)

i prefer play on guitar that is not a fake..
dont mind what brand it has
as long as i see it well made, from a good wood, the construction, the playability, the tone it produce than its okay :)
well.. if the guitar has all of them its a great assets..

i use to test it with playing it without plug it into the amps.. well it'll show its true nature..
if it sounds good.. the vibration, the tone, and sustain well..
then u can consider to change its PUps

i think it depends how you look at it. there are many factors when picking a guitar. looks, tone, price, feel and lastly durability. brands like tokai and edwards have a good history for making very good replica's and further more, they are separate entities with their own brand name. I think that's the main difference that sets them apart from the MIC "dunno from where" replicas.

Pickups are the least of your problems and changing them out might not give you a good tone as well. the more commonly used woods are alder, ash , mahogany, basswood. where as some cheap replicas do use chipboard like materials that is compressed and hardened to form the body. Well, just imagine your guitar is made out of cardboard boxes and ice cream sticks all rolled into one. I doubt it will resonate well and last long.

For cosmetics wise, ok la... i have to admit its quite pretty until you further scrutinize it in detail. quite disturbing sometimes cause they are making it really close to the original and it gets closer from every batch they make. and i don't mean it as a compliment.

I think its fine if you think that by swapping out the pickups, it will give you great tone. everyone is entitled to their own opinions. once bitten twice shy. We learn from mistakes. i guess the guys here are just trying to let you know that putting a killer set of pups into some carboard boxes & ice cream sticks will not take you as far as you think.

nothing wrong with buying a replica or in this case, it's a fake cause it bears the brand name that's not made by the company that bears the logo. And do bear in mind also that it is illegal to sell counterfeit goods. maybe you are safe as a consumer but when the day comes when you need to sell it off, you will be committing copyright infringements as well.

Proceed with caution
:)

Thanks for this lesson. I strongly agree. Wood, neck and etc also spoil the sound too, I really mean if the neck and the body wood is good.. changing pickup might sound great. I don't know. anyways, thanks.

seriously bro...I owned a fake gibson before(mine was a zakk wylde fakey)....those are only good for display purpose only....
- when I took out the pups, all the splinters came out from the cavity....totally have no idea what kind of plywood is the body
- the nut is badly cut...the height of each strings are imbalance, difficult to press the strings on the 1st and 2nd fret
- Pickups very compressed sounding
- All the hardwares tarnish very easily
- Poor sustain

Surprisingly, the guitar has good balance and heavier than my old gibson lp studio. Stays well in tune as well.

my advice....dun buy it....I prefer to buy epiphone or tokai anyday

Don't buy fakes. You're encouraging those f*****g China manufacturers and distributors.

If you already did, keep those fakes and don't sell them. If you do, you're (i) breaking the law, (ii) flooding more fakes to the resale market (and someone out there will eventually get cheated). IMO.
