extremely bad news

Yea, Im sure the artist isnt the 1 complaining.. just ask yourself, how do u feel when ppl are playing your song? Im sure we would rather have ppl all over playing our song than to earn that little revenue, which may most probably result in your song getting lesser known..

This is going to hit the music scene badly man... the growth of many musicians would be more or less hindered.

Then playing by ear is not allowed too? Cuz we are also violating the copyrights already by playing the song without a license? we can only play our own songs?
damn this is damn crap man... copyrights shouldnt be used to such an extent..

i find this VERY VERY ridiculous, so like, if i teach my cousin to play a song, its considered stealing?

or if i write a tab to be shared among my friends, thats stealing too? geez, there's only one way of playing Enter Sandman  , so am i supposed to somehow, make a wrong note somewhere?

uh. actually. if u use your own tab for private usage, that is not considered a copyright infringement for all purposes and intents.

the music industry has actually exercised their powered on the tab issue before. my guess is still that tabs will still survive online. you just get more monopoly and monetary/ad based tab-providing websites.

BlackMoo, do you happen to know someone who works in a big company. those that make something like a few million dollars a year? how much do you think the person you know make a year? do you think it is propotional to what the company make?

thor666, it should be in the Home section or Life. got 2+ pages on it.

p4zl, welcome to SOFT. did you read the article mentioned in the first post of this thread? they are targeting websites that offer unlicenced music sheet. are you saying that you agree to unlicenced music sheet?

mamemo, did you read the article mentioned in the first post of this thread? they are targeting websites that offer unlicenced music sheet. are you saying that you agree to unlicenced music sheet?

The problem now is that they are cracking down un unliscenced scores/lyrics being shared over the masses. These files are deemed as infringing copyright. However it can't be justified as its a person's interpretation of a song, not a direct copy.

Yet this move is still employed, why?

Those ppl who just plays guitar/bass for a hobby...learning a song or 2 just for leisure are gonna just give up on it. I suppose we could inform Racer X or Symphony X to tell them take down the guitar tabs section.

Like what the above 2 bands have stated in their site, they thank the fans for taking time to tab out the music. It's good to share what some ppl have transcribed out, and share with others. Scanning from mags and books are illegal, but transcriptions by others aren't.

What mamemo have said made sense, there is only 1 way to play the song as it is. By clamping down on the distribution of the tabs online, the corporate a-holes are also skewing the story to benefit themselves. I believe after this move is made, the companies also won't release every single tab by all artistes.

We can debate all day long, but money is usually the driving factor. Let's be practical.....talks on artiste's revenue and intellectual copyright? Cow excretion i tell u all

in a world where greed drives...

what ever man... this kinda move ain't THAT surprising...

if this is the case, we'd just make do and adapt... if the reason behind this move was really for good intentions, well, they'd(who ever's clamping down on this)have peace of mind... good for them... if it wasn't, well, then they can enjoy all they want now... until in about... maybe at most 70 years time...

they'd realise they can't bring money to hell with em... how sad

<edit>

oh yes, u may like to see this:
http://www.racerxband.com/tabs.htm

why is this so if it east $$$ out of them?

wait.. money? what money? u mean coffee money? oh that... yeap we'll remember to collect it in 10 years time! maybe by then it'll accumulate enough to buy us a new guitar!

They better make sure they have all the scorebooks for all the songs in the world.. even for those out of print scorebooks.. And there's such a thing called photocopier out there.. kopikopi~!@

Why the big panic

It really is interesting to know that most of you guys dont try to tab the songs by urself first? It is hard at first but after a while, you will appreciate it.

As with the issue of tab copyright.. I dont even know what that Lauren dude is pulling. It doesnt make common sense but in black and white, this is indeed an out of the ordinary use of the word copyright. Just like when Karaoke places had or still has to pay royalties to artistes. Like oi, we bought the disc already can?

If you let this destroy or even diminish your interest in music, then they win. Take it to the next level of musicianship, tab ur own, or browse around for back dated issues of guitar world or something, if you cant really do it.

I think this forces us to learn it the old school way, to understand the music better, rather than just copy whatever is written on a piece of paper. Do you really really need a tab to play Hoobastank's the reason? Just an example.

I am drummer now used to play guitar. And I will be damned if I cant play drums without a tab. Just a my point of view, definately not trying to flame anyone.

the tab has to be exactly the same to be a copyright? if so then it's not a prob, since 90+ percent of the tabs online are not 100% correct anyway..

yea..agreed..sumtyms..the chords may be diff..but you still get the same sound..wait..what the hell am i talking abt?i dunno..
