Equaliser Choices.

Now are there any high-quality EQ pedals out there aside from those in my shortlist.

-MXR 10-Band. (Don't really appreciate that it can't run on 9v.)
-Danelectro Fish&chips.
-Boss GE-7 (Stock or Sniper Mod)

daneclectro do check the reliabilty issue first before doing anything

GE-7 is a good pedal stock on itself... however theres disgusting backgroun noise plus in fact inside the components are not those high quality one so a mod to improve it is advisable

the mxr i have no experience

besides this if i ever get a EQ i would eye on the electroharmonix Tube EQ... :D

Well ideally it'd true-bypassed, durable, etc etc.
None of those I mentioned are TB.

Yeap that's why the sniper mod is required, just email Randolf regarding the mods he can do with a GE-7.
Hopefully I'll get some good news.

The ability to store multiple patches is definitely a plus!

oh yeah not TB... but well if theres not much tone suck then why not... only if you are REALLY REALLY tone freal :D

here is the tube EQ

if you get the GE-7 you may wanna DIY mod that yourself... www.monteallums.com

i just done the SUSTAINIAC MOD and my MT-2 and hell it sounds GREAT!

for the ge-7.. its recommended to get the sniper diy mod instead of the monte one.. makes the tone more fatter as well as lowers the white noise..

oh is it?

would you mind tell me more infor in this to compare between the two?

the monte does reduce the noise as well

and the sniper can be DIY? you have the URL for it?

But what if Phil doesn't want fatter? ;)

At the end of the day... the most impt factor is... will you use the eq? Do you need it?

Maybe you should just grab the Fish & Chips (only 70 bucks) and try it... see if you find a use for it.

speaking of EQ, do you guys favour an active EQ boost when playing? for me, boosting the treble and bass frequencies sounded good for awhile. after that it starts to sound really unnatural and "exaggerated".

Although it's highly recommended by most people to cut instead of boost, I find that this rule is most applicable when in a studio.

In other circumstances, I'm cool with boosting.

But it's just one one cent's worth.

i find eq very useful for certain segments of a song when u want a different feel to your tone. of course, it's also really good for earth-shaking low-end scooped metal tones if you so wish :D

u mentioned the mxr 10 band EQ, but why not the 6-band one? frankly unless you're a sound engineer, i think the 6 band one is enough. and to my knowledge, the new 6 band EQ pedal (black) is true bypass (someone correct me if i'm wrong, i did do some reading before i got mine)

compared to the Boss GE7, the MXR 6-band is capable of more extreme eq-ing (higher dB boost than GE7), and it seems warmer in the same settings than the GE7.... plus, it's smaller too! it's $130 before discount at ranking

oh and i forgot to add, there are red LEDs on each slider.... nice touch and good if u gig at dark places

Well right! The MXR 6-Band is a possibility as well. But it's only true-bypassed on one side, if I remember correctly. Either the input or output.

I saw it at Ranking too, I wonder if Sweelee carries them. I ought to give SL a call, but I don't like talking to the fellows there.

I thought eq was a great tool, which it is, and something I would use often, which in the end didn't turn out to be the case.

At the end of the day, I never use an EQ pedal.

YMMV though, so IMO, grab some cheapo eq, think some behringer eq is going on luther, and see if you actually have a use for it.

Hmm.

I recommend the behringer Bass EQ. Seriously, it adds so much dimension to my sound... the bottom end is infectious! Wouldn't hurt that this little baby costs only $50 at ranking :P

So Shred, tell me about why at the end of the day, an EQ pedal is redundant to you?

I'm seriously considering the MXR 6-band. Cheap cheap too.
