Wenger: 'I haven't given up on the title race'
Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal
Barclays Premiership
Stamford Bridge
Sun, Dec 10, 2006, 4pm

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger has not given up on winning the Premiership title.

Arsenal took a valuable draw away from Stamford Bridge on Sunday but are still 18 points adrift of leaders Manchester United, albeit with a game in hand.

Afterwards the manager re-iterated his argument that, although Arsenal are well off the pace, he believes if they concentrate on their own game they can still contest England’s top honour.

“I do not look at Chelsea or Manchester United,” he said. “I look at my team and we want to win the title.

“We have won at Manchester United, we have beaten Liverpool and we came close to winning here at Chelsea. That tells you there is a big potential in this side.

“There is a big stride in my side to be top. I have still not given up on [catching] Manchester United as well but at the moment I admit it looks a bit pretentious.

“Still if you ask me who I want to be champions I can give you a straight answer — Arsenal.”

Ooo, Fabregas refused to shake Cashley Cole's hand after the match and there was a brawl between them in the tunnel after that!

GO FAB! :D Arsenal Legend in the making!HE should be captain!

money face arse...

I pity you... you're going to have a job that pays you the same amount of money or less for the next 30 years. If you switched to another company that pays you more for the expertise you have, you're a money faced arse.

So, please do not change company and earn more ok?

Soccer is not about companies...

it was when sponsors overpowered the soccer industry..that people think players should move to rich clubs and earn more..

BUT! soccer is a sport and its not about switching companies...its different from the working world..

every team's intention of buying good players doesn't always boil down to money.

Take for instance, Shevchenko. HE was bought with a hefty sum of money and his intention was? - To have his son in an english oriented speaking community.

Furthurmore, Chelsea's boss is from his area what, so good to have a fellow "Kampong" friend in his own club.

And every team's intention is to win cups, leagues fixtures and stuff, for what?? - earn money lah, fame, and all that shit. Its all about the glory, and that glory is fuel by money.

Like a person who has a car, no point having it if you don't have petrol. Well maybe in the near future hydrogen fuel cell.

You still have to pay the signing on fees... you still have to keep the grounds maintained... you still have to keep the talent school funded...

Soccer is a sport itself... but the tasks that comes along with it requires money. Where does all these money come from?

How different is it from the business world? If a soccer club comes to me, offer me a higher pay, would I not take it up? It's the exact same example as; another company comes to you and offer you better pay for your expertise, would you not take it up?

Don't forget, soccer on the pitch is a short-lived industry. It's not a "job" that you can run all the way til you're 60 yrs old. You can still get employed in other areas of soccer after you're retired from active playing. It is absolutely unfair and biased to call a player "money faced" just because you support that club so you do not want to see him leave for that reason?

Soccer is a sport... would you play soccer without getting paid to uphold the spirit of sports? It's only a matter of striking a balance between the two. Getting paid the best offer I can get ... WHILE still doing the thing I love most.

but but but, there's more to it than just money...or else we would not see players who do not take up a better monetary offer at another club just because they have loyalty for their current club.

If everyone thinks that way, then Real Madrid and Chelsea would have all the best players in the world and no other club can boast having above average players in their squad.

There are so many "loyal" players out there, who have been targetted by Richer clubs waving bigger Salaries in front of them , but these players choose not to.

So , unfortunately for you, money is not the prime motivator when it comes to soccer, and fortunately for us, you're not a professional soccer player.

HAHAHAH

:D

The decision to join a club is definitely beyond just money alone. That's for sure. That is why I say it is unfair and biased to call a player "money faced".

Tell that to valo...

Heheh dude I know, Just kidding...

Being biased is what being a soccer fan is all about by the way!

HAHA

"I didn't see it"- Arsene Wenger

Cheers!!!!
