electronic drums midi to individual drum tracks

hey there,
i've gotten the yamaha dd 65 as a midi trigger.

question:

when i play on the dd 65, as of now, all the midi notes are recorded to one instrument track

i am wondering, when im playing the dd 65, can the snare midi signal be channeled to the 'snare' track, the kick to another track so on and so forth...

basically same as how you were to record a acoustic drums, whereby you have each individual track for each toms, snare, overhead blah blah...


if it can! please share with me! hahahha...
if cant, i think it's okay, i'll just record everything then slowly copy and paste.
but i kinda feel that logic can do it... but im not that pro, so dun noe! hahaha

Did you get your dtxexpress to work? If you can get the dd65 to work, you should be able to get the dtxexpress to work as well. Check your midi sent channel from the dtxexpress - make sure it is set to channel 1 or omni. Make sure Logic receives from the same channel. I believe it's something very simple to solve.

To send individual drum/tom/hi hat/cymbal etc to individual midi channels, it depends on your electronic drums, not Logic. The drums must be able to assign individual pads/drums etc to a separate midi channel. I'm not sure the dd65 can do it, but the dtxexpress may be able to. You'll have to check the manual. E.g. snare channel 1, hi hat channel 2, kick drum channel 3, tom 1 channel 4 etc etc. In Logic or whatever DAW you use, you simply create the same number of midi tracks and select the respective midi in channels.

The more important question is - why do you want to do that? You're not recording audio but midi. There's really no benefit in splitting drum midi tracks. For audio recording of a real drum, one may want to mix individual drums/toms etc with different compressor levels/EQ etc, so there's a reason. But for midi, it's just midi signals. What's important is when you channel the midi into drum sounds again. It's easy to edit drum midi tracks as a single track.

For more flexibility in changing drum sounds (ie customizing your individual kits like changing a Ludwig 15" metal snare to Rogers 14" etc, changing mics position etc), I recommend Superior Drummer as a VSTi. You'll get excellent sound and lots of possilibities to different sounding kits.

U could record your performance first, then select the MIDI region and get Logic to "Demix by note event". (under the "MIDI" menu in the arrange window)

This will automatically create additional tracks assigned to the same Instrument. (kick/snare/rimshot/Hats/ride etc etc... based on the notes they trigger.)

You could then apply Logic's or 3rd party plugs to each drum instrument track. (provided it's inserted on a software instrument track.
