electro music

hi, was wondering what kind/brand/model of synthesizer or modules should i be looking for if i intend to write electro music along the line of daftpunk and mstrkrft.

anyway i got a kaoss pad 3 recently and its really awesome. so im think of getting a synthesizer to hook up with it to make electro music.

thanks to anyone who can help me with this

im currently playing chiptunes, which is using chips from game consoles to produce music. works really well with the kaoss pad 3. im trying to work some electro beat and run it along with some drum samples and incorporate it with my chiptune.

any help? which synthesizer/modules should i get to get electro sound? i know techno is best use with korg electribe, clavia and virus. how about electro? thanks again.

edit: sorry, i missed your question. nope, i dont have a keyboard yet..

Don't know much about keyboards and synths but I love electronica so I look into it abit. Most of my favourite electro bands use Nord synths. Nord Electro2 specifically.

By the way, does anyone know what's the synth Amanda Ling from Electrico uses? In the video Love In New Wave. It's a Nord right?

thanks shaneypants.

nord electro 2 by clavia? its going to cost a bomb man.

i was thinking of getting a virus ti polar. anyone knows if i can use that to get an electro sound? and how much is it retailing now??

the Nord Electro is not for electro sounds. What you want is the Nord Lead series of keyboards.

Virus is one of the best you can get for "electro" sounds.

and coincidentally, someone's selling a Nord Lead 3 now

thanks for clearing that up.

anyway, does anyone have any idea how much a virus ti polar cost? or how much is it for a nord lead 3 brand new?

thanks again. :D

Aye... Nord lead is a good recommendation but if budget is tight, look for a MicroKorg second hand... you may want to look into xiosynth which most of my overseas friends are still exploiting. The later two are less than $1k ... small and portable... I saw a MicroKorg brand new in Barcelona just last week and it converts to SGD$600... damn should have bought it... why Microkorg? It's got some the the phattest virtual analogue sounds and have good flexi controls on parameters like ADSR, filters, etc... bad thing is small keys... but i like that... it's cute :)

dude, the microkorg is selling 635$ brand new at city music. so it isnt so far actually.

ive tried the microkorg and its tweakability is really massive, and one can really get any kind of sound you want from there. but the keys are really blah, felt like a toy piano actually.

anyone knows the difference between a microX and a microkorg (besides the drum samples in microX)? is the microX as big on tweakability as the microkorg?

edit: anyone knows where i can get a xiosynth in singapore? just checked out a little more about it and i was blown away by the sounds! sounds really fat, even better than the microkorg.

another thing, is is a midi controller? or a synthesizer?? or both?

Actually the xiosynth is not phatter ... but it is more lush in terms of layering, MicroKorg was done to emulate monosynths tho it has polyphony... :) Xiosynth is a synthesizer and can do midi controlling :) so yesh, both...

thanks sonicbrat.

i just checked with the novation distro here and the xiosynth is 806 with GST.
but considering the phat sound, acts as a synth and midi controller, i think im going with it.

the most flattering quote from one of the reviews has got to be this: "Think of the Virus but 10 times cheaper." i wonder how much of that is true.

no no.. you can use it AWAY from the computer, as a synthesizer alone. OR you can choose to use it WITH the computer as a midi controller.

hmm.. yea. i am using a xiosynth for 4 mths now.

sounds fat, light and small for gigs, can be powered by usb, adapter OR batteries!.

tweaking is easy too!

but physical wise doesnt seem that dependable...the "paint" is made of chaap coloring and is easily scratchable..and i mean easily....if asthetics is yr thing u gota prepare yrsef that this little babe wun be scratchfree even for a few months....

and ..the keys....semi weight is simply b.s....and the keys can be pulled out and plucked back in again ..if u happpen to wack them too hard downwards yrself..it may detach itself a bit.......hard to explain....goota try it then u noe...:P

anyway..i never tried a virus..but to me its(xiosynth) one of the better value buy out there for a good synth if u want trance/ecectro sounds that are fat and easy to tweak...its nice for a synth noob like me..i've always been into keyboards but not true blue synths like nord, novation or access..etc...this is my first and i simply ove its cuteness and power leads to death....whahaha

its light and gig frendly too..that means if u cant find a 2nd tier keyboard stand for yr gig spot, a simple tilt-able full frame score stand will do also as a 2nd tier stand as well...just tilt the score stand( NOT those skinny foldable ones of cos) 90 degree and perch yr little xio babe on it....dahaaaaa.....if the gig place not enuff power point u can depend on running it on batteries too...
