EHX Hum Debugger

Anybody tried one of these yet or opened them up to see what the heck is inside that makes it work? I'm just wondering how the thing works.

it's a noise reduction unit, similar to what BOSS is offering. i'd recommend ISP's Decimator pedal available @ G77...

this'll help the lay person because it's no use buying something which addresses the same problem albeit differently: noise reduction.

Noise gates sense the level of the signal input. When it goes below a certain level, it shuts off, keeping the signal totally quiet. Usually you set this level with a knob. This also means your sustained notes could get cut off when it goes below that level.

The hum debugger has no knobs, it does not ever shut off. It just somehow removes the hum. Everyone's waiting for it to come out so we can open and analyse what's going on in there. There's speculation that it's some intelligent digital circuitry that cancels 60 cycle hum.

it might be an emulation of a stacked single coil technology in a pedal- if it's possible at all.

btw- the Debugger is already available in Europe (selected countries)...

That's interesting, as far as I know, the hum debugger is not even in production yet, and nobody on any of the forums I surf have it.

wouldnt that just mean its a glorified EQ notching out 60hz and its harmonics?

Noise cancellation usually works by putting in an equal, but exact opposite signal. There are noise reduction headphones that do this. The full frequency spectrum is still allowed to pass, but the external noise is cancelled.

As for the hum debugger i'm really not too sure how it's gonna work. Lots of techies are stumped and waiting to see too.

Even Suhr's BPSCC couldn't even remove the hum totally, but good enough in most venues/home. I'll be pessimistic about how effective the debugger is, curious about what's going on inside though

But the main thing abt the BPSCC was that it retains the single cóil's single coil-ness as many have reported... no change in tone (other than the hum) when the system is active.

Oh well.. shall wait... geee... never thought abt having noise reduction in my rig...

Yup, which is 1 of the best systems out there now for removing the hum of single coils....imo it'll take a lot more to top BPSCC with the way it retains the tone.

Just a thought, when the EH Debugger is used with a SSH guitar......what will it do to the humbucker? :lol:
