EAR PROTECTIONS PLEASE!

YEA THEY ARE GREAT ! thx everyone! hahha.. my band's been using them for about 2 mths now..
you can get those $1 ear plugs at army shops which are real effective... man if u cant take the studio sound u gonna have problem with gigs later on haha...
and how can u drummer not know how to play soft? just apply less force? or does he lose time cuz he's not used to it? so is the problem the noise? or the drummer?
and personally i feel that one main purpose for going to the studio is to not hold back on ur playing, to play as loud as u want for there are no PMSing neighbours around to whine and dine

etymotic plug never give me any problems when I want some protection for my ear and still listen to what I wanted to hear. 
normal plug just cut off the highs... which not really good for listen. 
anyway, I have seen bands/drummers using plug in the jamming studio before and I just have the feeling they're not using it correctly. Ear plug is the protect your ears... not for you to play or hits the drums harder.....

Ear plug is the protect your ears... not for you to play or hits the drums harder..... it is important to take care of yr ears as a musician.... theorically(pardon on my spelling) u will lose a freq of 1Hz everyday be it u listen to music or not... so if u don't take care of yr ears... u will definately lose more than that.....
for yr reference.... normally when u go to a club with loud trance or techno music for 3-4hrs, u apparently need abt 6days to completely recover yr earing, without doing so... u r killing yr hearing....
therefor ears plugs play a very important part in jammings & gigs..... wear them if possible...

I use a custom-molded pair of earplugs. it's just a rubber mold with an Etymotic filter that cuts out 25 dB. I got the mold made at the Northeastern University Medical Centre in Boston when I lived there. Cost me US$75 incl filters. Very easy care, just wash the mold when it get's crusty.
The difference between the ready-made and the custom earplugs is the distance the plug goes. Custom ones reach the 2nd bend. Definitely more isolation, yet clarity.
I totally recommend it. Worth the investment. You can get the moulds done in NUH Audiology Department (get a referral from Polyclinic, it's cheaper that way), or private Audiologists who make hearing aids. Sites like Etymotic, or Ultimate Ears have specs for the moulds.
I got them because I was practising drums a lot in a very small space. I was told that the woodwinds section of the Boston Symphony all wear 'em cuz the horns behind are very loud. So if the classical guys are getting them, what more people like us.

Earplug play an important role in jamming and concert especially those musicians. As a drummer, shld be able to ctrl the strength or else he or she cannot become a good drummer. Not used to it doesent mean cannot become a drummer. Do everyhere once born able to eat with spoon? Anything in the beginning is new to everyone. Just get used to it and u will be break free!!
