Like I said, it's a multi-faceted problem, which I have REPEATED so many times. It's not only a Newbie vs Laojiao problem, there's also a structural problem involved. But to reply to your comments.
1. Why should a newbie come in, demand information, and then not reply to his thread? Very frustrating. You don't even know if you helped him. Should there be limits to such hit and run?
2. If you spend your time reading pointless posts, should you be happy? Or should you stop reading? Or maybe we should segregate the forums out? It sure is as tiring for experienced people to read newbie threads, sometimes to the point of utter ridiculousness (asking questions about Sweelee when Sweelee phone number is just around the corner).
3. I won't argue about the opinions - you have yours and I have mine. Opinions matter as much or as little to different people in different contexts. But do consider why SOFT has such a high attrition rate - there's over 10K of registered users but less than 2% participating in the forums nowadays. Is it because SOFT has lost its value over time, or are unable to sustain its value when users transition from one point to another?
4. Teaching people to fish has been done before. However, if someone else chooses to give a fish, then what? If you look objectively, penta-tonic is telling the threadstarter to learn how to fish. Although not in a very friendly manner.
And to be honest, comparing SD forum, TGP and SOFT, there're just so many more "bad newbies" here than there. Sure, I don't have statistics for it. Go over there, hang out a bit, see if I'm correct.
