hey guys.. i needa some help...

here's my setup...

yamaha dtxpress (midi out port) --> presonus FP 10 (midi in port)

after which i ran logic 8.

when i started playing on the electronic drums, there's not midi signal.
is there something which i must adjust in logic?

anyone tried this config before?
i dun think it's the midi cable problem as it's brand new, gotten it like few days back.

Thanks! urgent! hehehe

Can you see "presonus" in the midi in ports? You'll have to select it in your midi track. When you play e-drums, you should see midi being triggered. But you'll get no sound from Logic unless you select a sound bank as output.

If you are using GM (general midi), drums tracks are by default channel 10. But in your case, it shouldn't matter.

What drum library are you using within Logic?

Under Utilities -> Audio Midi, open something like Midi device tab. Link the Presonus and Yamaha Dtxpress. Select the Midi ID of Yamaha to Presonus, but you must know the ID of your Yamahas first. Cannot tell the detail, cos I'm outside.

Well, when I open the Audio Midi utilities I didn't see any yamaha driver. I saw a yamaha driver but I think that's my yamaha keyboard which I connect using USB midi. Or must I download some driver?

Yes. I am still able to see the presonus icon with the little triangle

All your electronic drums does is to generate midi signals. These signals will be sent to your Mac via the Presonus FP-10 midi interface. You can locate from the web a Loigic environment for the Dtxexpress, but I believe that's not necessary. You could easily create a simple midi track, select midi input as presonus FP10, select your favorite drums plugin/sample/instrument within Logic, and you should get sound. In this case, you'll not see Dtxexpress in your Logic. You'll certainly not find it in the drivers since all the drum is not connected directly to your Mac via midi, but through the FP-10.

Are you getting midi signals at all? Try playing the drums. Do you see any midi signals coming through?

And what drum library are you using?

im not getting any midi signals... thats e problem...

as for e sound.. i'll just use e onboard jam pack sounds

I assuming you still link midi cable form your Dtexpress to your presnous.

Using the above image. Create a device for your Dtxexpress. You should name it of cos. Open the system property of the midi device you created. All the thing don't really need to touch. Key in your System Exclusive ID of your Dtxepress. Test signal when you are done.

Open up Logic and hit your Dtexpress. The transport bar should receive the midi signal from your Dtexpress.

Where Do I get the System Exclusive ID???

Logic

Bud,

Few things..

- Make sure you've installed the correct drivers for your Presonus unit.

- Once installed, plug in the presonus to your Mac and go to your Utilities folder to launch Audio/MIDI setup.. You should see your presonus. There's absolutely nothing you need to do here except maybe assign a preferred MIDI channel.

With your edrum's MIDI OUT connected to your Presonus's MIDI IN, Launch Logic 8 and you'll be asked to create a track.

- Select "Software Instrument"

Play your edrums. (There won't be a sound right now)

Pay attention to the bottom of the screen where the transport is, you'll see the "MIDI I/O Display" flickering. It shows you what note/s, chords are currently being triggered...

If there's no activity,
- One of your cable/s (Audio or MIDI or USB) is Fooked. Or,
- Your MIDI Environment is messed up.

If everything is ok,

- Insert the AU Drum instrument in the input slot..EXS24/ EZ Drummer/ Superior BFD etc, etc.

- Or insert "External instrument" plugin if you want to trigger sounds from external sources..

Best.

Nicely explained.

This explanation applies to PC users also.

TIP: You will not see your electronic drum in the software config. Only your MIDI will appear in the audio/MIDI settings. In your case TS, its the presonus.
