DS-1 or ts9 as a a booster?

i have a question. does boosters boost the drive on the amp? that means if i were to have a ds-1 and uber metal, i would drive the amp further and not 'pump up' the uber metal, then to the amp to get a more 'powerful' sound?

my concern is whether the pedal that is the NON-BOOSTER plays a big part. cause i am getting a uber metal, but i somehow havent seen any cases in which people use boosters along side a line6 ubermetal.

please enlighten this noob here please? thanks! :D

boosters will def boost the gain pedal since your pushing more volume into the gain stage, more of the guitars signal would be processed.

i dont know about the ubermetal, but some people use a booster/light overdrive in front of other high gain pedals like the gt2 for a smoother less harsh sound when playing leads. or use two gain stages with the high gain pedal/amp tamed down abit.

i think..all the best hot cream

the uber metal doesn;t really need a boost mella.. not for gain, just for the volume mayb.. but nothing else..

I like the Boss OD3.

If you're not too anal or bent on achieving some kind of holy grail tone, this pedal is great. The OD is very much like a cranked up all valve amp except smoother. Retains the guitar's tone and doesn't suck the bass off. No midrange hump either. Ok maybe not as distinct as the TS, kinda generic but more versatile IMO.

And as a booster, the maximum boost of a TS is about 1/3 of the OD3's boost capabilities. No kidding. I sold off my TS for this very reason.

Having said that, I'm not against the TS. If i were to buy a TS, it would probably be the sweet but overpriced TS808 RI. It makes the TS9 and TS7 sound very dull in contrast. For a great sound,

Strat ->TS808->Fender tube amp = coolness for me

RazrAsh: yep i know haha. i was just thinking if there is a case where i would want a different lead sound, or a boost in volume for lead.

haha. yeah i agree with matt. hot cream's the best. boost your 'bear bear', give you awesome screaming (creaming) lead tones. woo hoo.

The OD3 is BOSS' attempt to rival Ibanez's Tubescreamer, after their attempt with the Blues Driver missed the mark 8)

Aye, but the Blues Driver is a different animal... OD with HAIR... something the ts9 totally does not have.

hmm... so it is better to get an OD for boost ? Am using a MT-2 ... if I off it, my tone like gone with the wind !

yup- the reason they came up with the OD3. it's like they are bent on competing.

when i use the Tubesceamer (all models) as a booster, i get a more transparent sound, attributable to the pedal's drive nature which is a mild one. when the DS-1 is hooked up, there is more granular midrange to be heard. if you like what the DS-1 has to offer but could use a little more drive to boost your signals, try the Blues Driver. i enjoy using this pedal as both a stand alone drive source/ booster. perhaps the only BOSS pedal that doesn't make me frown 8) however, the Tubescreamers are my favs.

I also use a BD2. I uses 3 drive pedals, BD2->MT2->DS1. BD2 to boost MT2 & both to boost DS1. All have to carefully tweaked as not to have to much noise.

I feel modding it could make it more specific for its use. I did an ultra mod on my ds1 and I feel its much cleaner as a booster. While it was ok when stock, I think it has far more potential modded. Applies to the BD2 as well.

I agree with the sentiments on the TS, definitely the 808 to boost all the way. :)
