Heh Frummer I'm facing the exact same thing you're facing now. I haven't gotten my drumset yet either. And if I tell my mum I'll use my savings to buy it, she'll say, "If I never give you money, where you get the savings from." And anyway we're still living under one roof and she owns the house, so if she never relents, I can only wait till I have my own house.

Learn to take it in your stride, you don't really need to have a real kit to practise. I've been practising on office chairs since I was self-learning around 2 years ago...My sticks don't really bounce. And I didn't have the luxury of a decent practice pad until this year cuz my mum thought it was ridiculous to pay so much for a piece of wood with a slice of rubber on top. O.o

Hey. Btw, Frummer faced this problem 2 years ago. Check the date. Haha.

I play drums in HDB flat too. No parents will agree to it. I had a hard time convincing them. I chose the weaker minded one among them(my mum) and sat down with her at the dining table drink coffee and talk. I tell them my alternatives, such as electronic drums etc. But those are really costly.

On the day when I bought my drums, I told them I'm going out to buy drums. They were shocked. I left the house quick enough before they could react.

When I'm home, my dad watch me setting up the drums and ask me if it's gonna be loud. I told him I'll play softly. My playing gradually become louder after two months. But they've gotten used to it.

metzalx, I like your mum's description of practice pad. "a piece of wood with a slice of rubber on top"

Hey. Btw, Frummer

haha lol i never checked the date haha. suppose this goes out to all the other people facing the same dilemma then. XD

lol it's not exactly funny when you dont yet own a practice pad and you're trying to convince your mum that its "not just some slice on rubber on some slice of wood", but now when i look back, i find it funny too haha.

I play around 6-7 hours daily, recently there was a complain.
Cops were called and all..

Following night I called and complained about their noisy dog barking!

LOL

Oh ya, before I bought my drumset, I had a practice drumset. It's all practice pads. Cost around $250(assuming the price didn't change) at ranking. It's a good substitution for drumset but there's drums sound. It's a good start. Let your parents get used to the noise first.

good thing no cops came knocking onto my door... or maybe they too darn lazy to have a courtesy visit to my house???

hmmm... cops nowadays...
