hmmmm miss the days when under the bridge at thompson flyover there was this hawker center with really good mama mutton steak, and gatchaman.

Pre-911 days before all the security becomes hyper, year round there are lobang places to go for fishing.

Favourite is collier quay (Red Lantern Niteclub, or kusu island jetty), when Groupa season in on, on a good night we would get about 8 catches ranging from 500gm to 2kg. The best spot became outs of bound.

I also want to add somthing......

Studio at West Coast called Tony's with the rental of 7bucks per hour... still have to 'mata-mata' to fork out the rental.... Then came in Seng Chai... Jamming there is like having a mini gig where everyone can see, damn pai-seh sia... Clementi Woods is a hiding place to smoke, I miss Fire disco la... Energy was resident band... they were the coolest band in sg back then... and i miss those weekly takraw tournaments held in YISS.... Man, I miss those good ol' days!!!
Only underground/death/trash metal bands jam at ahboy.

oh 1 more thing - Whenever we see a guy with long hair carying a guitar to jam will be regarded as "Wah!!This guy sure good like hell" .....hahah

There r time when we oso had our local band such as Rusty Blade , Rockers which was well accepted at tht time even in Malaysia n Indonesia...n both of them realy realy rock to the grind...phew!!! They r real awesome band on those days

Man, most of you guys are going as far back as the 80s only. But can't blame you guys though as you all have only lived about 20 to 30+ years on this planet.

Those were the days...

When I was listening to American Top 40 on Redifusion..basically a speaker box connected by cables that lead from the street to your house. Everything was broadcast via cables.

When the NPCC in my school was still wearing the old police uniform of light blue shirts and khaki shorts...they changed to the all-blue uniform a year later.

When I attended rock concerts at the old National Theatre and you have quite an interesting lineup of artistes such as Pest Infested, Heritage etc and, would you believe it, Tracy Huang!

When the only fast food joint was A&W at Bukit Timah Road, opposite the old University of Singapore. KFC came soon after, followed by MacDonalds and Burger King about 3 years later.

When cinema tickets cost 50cents for the front stalls and $1 and $1.50 for the back stalls. Circle seats cost $3.00.

When there was still bus conductors around, and you could ride the bus in style by hanging on to the travelling bus with half your body outside the bus. Bus fare was a flat rate of 5cents for students which later increased to 10cents. There were also many different bus companies such as Tay Koh Yat Bus Company, Singapore Traction Company (STC), Paya Lebar Bus Company and Green Bus Company to name a few. Later, most of these merged or were sold off to become SBS.

When hawker food selling at an average of 70 cents per bowl or plate. Food in primary school tuckshops (the word canteen was not in use back then) cost between 10 and 20 cents, and a bottle of Pepsi (10 fluid oz) cost 15 cents.

When records/albums/LP sold for about $11 to $12 each and you could go to a record shop and pick your favourite songs from their range of records and have them recorded by the shop on a cassette or 8-track for about $4 to $5. You have to come back a few days later to collect it. There were also pirated records/albums/LP that you can buy.

When I have my first proper guitar, a MIJ Aria classical guitar bought for $60 and is even older than some of you guys reading this. The guitar is 29 this year.

So many changes since then. Ah times was so much more exciting and adventurous back then.....

:prayer:

for me, it was a Sunday outing at the "Tek Seng Kio" aka Thief's Market with my dad. Buy a whole bag of toys for $2. Polish my bicycle and then ride to Farrar park to kick some football.

Redifusion, must listen to "Lei Dai Saw" talk story! Monkey King!!!

Yep, Lei Dai Saw was the man and the voice...sort of like the James Earl Jones (who does the "This is CNN' line) of Redifusion. Lei was well-known for his Cantonese story-telling before the 'Speak Mandarin Campaign' killed off his career.

Man, before 'Speak Mandarin Campiagn' you could watch Cantonese, Teochew and Hokkien movies on TV...and even the TV commercials were in dialects. Could still remember the TV commercial for Campbell soup in Hokkien!

You never too old (or too young) to rock! Ah Pek never mind, as long as fingers can deliver those riffs

Just look at Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton and Phil Collins and the Eagles and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and the list goes on.
