Sorry to intervene, but do those POT guitars have some connection with Atlas guitars?
I have read somewhere online, either www.guitarhandmade.com or www.guitarandpickup.com that the abovementioned shop deals with them. Since POT is from Thailand, I wonder if they are of the same company.
Yes Chanmin is right about an alternative route for custom guitars. I almost ordered a POT guitar once, accustomed to my own specifications. I have yet to hear reviews about it. I have read good reviews about Atlas guitars too. Mr. Paul himself uses one and he seems to be very happy about it. I am spoiled of choices between POT and WARMOTH. Read about Warmoth's sloppy work and QC, but on the other side I heard good reviews about it. Don't know which to trust really, I don't want to splurge on impulse. USAGC is fine too, but somewhat it is out my 'league'. Whatever that meant.
Hope I can get your views from this, I am not looking for something special with bindings/maple tops/whatnot. Just a simple super strat, something like a Kramer Baretta or J FROG guitars. Really tempted to get the real thing, but they're too costly and in my honest opinion, not worth it. Opinions are very well appreciated!

hey i guess maybe u could sign up on the gear page forums then ask around. prob is there are very few guitar owners who own the said brands let alone tried more than 1 brand. guess getting this kinda brand is so called a gamble but i feel that with these few brands ure sure to hit lightning. u could also put into consideration melancon which i heard has gone back to 1 man production and greatly put the value back into the guitars. well and ive yet to meet pple who are unhappy with anderson. seems they think toms fretwork can match the plek pro machine.

Yea Ciel. I'm also looking at the Thorn, should have just plunged into the pool and ordered one when I asked a quotation. But then SGD6000 is a very large sum. I'm now looking at Carvins since I'd be heading to Canada for studies (soon hopefully). But I will definetely jump on the Thorn bandwagon when the order reopens. I feel it is quite above the trio manufacturers mentioned below. After it is a one-man business vs small workshop team.
Heard Sean Michaels (Lovepedal) might be doing some relic guitars. So far the comments on the strat-style necks seem pretty positive.

Its absolutely bullshit to be saying that a Tom Anderson guitar lacks tone as compared to the other three.
Have you ever played an Anderson? No doubt they might have received many labellings as sounding sterile simply because the pickups they used are too hi-fi sounding as compared to whats out there. I dig the anderson pickups alot on my musicman and dug them even more on an anderson itself.
What may be your version of a very alive tone may sound like complete ass to someone else.

That's cool. Everyone's entitled to his/her own preferences, indeed. And yes I was merely taking into comparison about having the vintage tone. I never doubted Tom Anderson's ability to stand his own against the mentioned other three. However, like you said, his guitars may sound sterile to some people but are actually excellent for studio recording. He won't be defended if he ain't any good right?

In my experience Tom Anderson, Tyler, Grosh, Suhr among many other boutique guitar brands all make great great guitars. They basically take the proven successful design of Fenders and concentrate of making unique almost microscopic but feel and tonewise significant improvements to a classic design. They may not have invented the wheel but they sure make some really great unique reinterpretations.
It's also interesting to note that these makers are implementing the Buzz Feiten patented nut unlike the major manufacturers.
Sterile sounding? Heh perhaps Zakk Wylde's EMG equipped Les Paul sounds sterile too? I dunno man but after having played some of these beauties I can only recommend that anybody try it themselves after which it will be no surprise that you'll feel otherwise.
