Does everybody hate metal distortion pedals?

Hows the TL2 compared to SC2? I wanna get a dist that's versatile in the sense that, can go chuga chuga, but at the same time can gimme that sweet lead tone,(think Vai sweet).

The TL2 is an outright Metal Pedal. Even if you EQ the pedal to give you that amp warmth and make it sound less chugga, it still compresses the tone, and makes it hard to get a wide open sound for classic rock or even 80s rock. The SC2 is the one that does this, but does not have the same compession of the TL2.

The SC2 does give you quite enough gain, but does not sound like a metal pedal. However, if you use it to push a slightly cranked amp, you get really heavy tones, minus the compression of the TL2.

For your purposes, stick with the SC2 and not the TL2.

Hi everyone, sorry to hijack but i'm thinking of getting the new MXR Fullbore Metal for my first pedal as soon as there's stock in Singapore. What attracts me most about it is the built in noise gate/scoop/3 band eq which i haven't seen in ther distortions. What do you guys think of it?

(Btw i've used a Boss MT-2 before but i want to get something more 'controllable')

Still swearing by your 7th Heaven huh?;)

Until I get that Bogner Ecstasy/Uberschall or Diezel VH4 high gain head, well yes. It needs to be boosted in the front end by my MIJ DS1 to get to that level of saturation for metal though but I like it better that way as it has better definition and noticably quieter than most high gainers in that ilk.

Speaking of which, I think the Blackstar DistX is also an excellent high gain contender. Its quite a one trick pony, but a very good one at that due to the ridiculous amounts of saturation present but it dosent sound so compressed and has quite a "big" sound unlike most of the other pedals in that regard. I'd get the HT Dual too if I could spare some extra cash :)

This is a general statement:

Just wanna say that different people look for different things in a pedal. I admit the 7th sounds really amp-like and so do a variety of other pedals. Some do sound more amp-ish than others but this would be entirely subjective.

For me personally ive lost touch with the high gain pedal department, the last one i owned was a metal muff, for me the 3 band eq was sufficient for me.

The 7th, as Ized can easily prove to you is a very versatile ampish pedal, yet i personally prefer one trick ponies but thats just me.

Just to reiterate, all this pedal talk is rather subjective. Diff pedals apply to diff people for diff users.

People like Prince are BOSS pedal fans, dont see anything ugly about that

thusfar, i like all my metal-type distortion pedals, they serve my needs. these pedals possess a higher level of distortion saturation which an average unit cannot achieve unless some combination is employed.

however, i still prefer the amp's default distortion/ drive 8-)
