Does everybody hate metal distortion pedals?

internet forums and youtube comments are all negative about ANY metal distortion pedal. Depends on video, thread and forum, they tend to be quite negative in the majority.
Today I played a Boss Metal Core and I thought "Man thats Brutal!!" then I played an EHX Micro Metal Muff and I thought "Man thats PHAT" but it seems like theres a lot of people who hate Metal Distortion pedals, maybe because they don't sound like that of an amps distortion

I think its obvious that if you want awesome distortion you need an awesome amp with awesome distortion. I dont mind having either the Boss Metal Core or EHX Micro Metal Muff, If you play Metal I think its important to have a Metal Distortion pedal in your collection because you never know how unhappy you can be with the amp in the jamming studio or at a gig

I love my Beta Aivin HM-200.

With regards to pedals, don't trust the reviews. As my signature says, tone is a really subjective thing. How the pedal sounds like to you is what is important. Not what others think because don't forget, theirs and your preferences are different.

Agree with you Whitestrat. I've tested quite a few and i stopped at the TL-2. Really strong and full. Unlike other pedals which tend to sound rather thin or fizzy.

TL-2 is probably the only metal distortion that i've tried that sounds damn badass.. i'm not a fan of the heavy chug but the TL-2 delivers it in heaps.

thats the heavy chugga to the max. i understand why those metal heads love it.

whereas the boutique pedal makers take on metal distortion almost always seem to not have enough gain.. i've had ppl tell me the barber dirty bomb not enough gain. 7theaven not enough gain. even brian mena's new pedal, the none more black sounds like some heavy distortion. not enough chugga.. *shrugs*

^ HI-5 bro!! I also use the Line 6 Uber Metal. It sounds wicked. And yea, tone is a very personal opinion. Not everyone has the same taste

the TL-2 is really good stuff. i would say the the ehx metal muff would come next. and yeah, i'm one of those that thinks the dirty bomb not enough gain to do metal

of late, i rather use a od to boost the amp's driven channel cause my mt-2 is failing me. input jack loose

I know that tone is very personal, but the comments are not like "too bassy" or "too trebly" or too thin etc but instead use the word 'crap'

heh, prolly the reason why some sound/gadget can be easily hype up without understanding the characteristic of sound and yet trying to discuss bout it in general.

certain tone, suck donkey ballz by itself, but when put in context of different genre music and mixing, it actually make lotsa sense.

imho

None truer words have been spoken bro... I really very RARELY use the TL2 these days as I don't really do the Michael Romeo thing very well. But when I need gain levels to the ballz then it comes out of hiding...

Other than that the SC2 or the Satchurator works great for me.

whitey can u please tell me what's good abt the satchurator?

i've only spent a few minutes on one and i cant find a single thing i like abt it. all i rmb it was just a distortion that was extremely compressed and a tad fizzy

That's exactly it... It's fizzy... Play some full chords on full gain and you'll discover the magic. It's big and wide. The lead tone is fine when you tweak it right, and the "more" switch is extremely useful. Just enough to boost your tone by a bit.

Compressed? Really? I don't find it compressed at all. Maybe your pickup output is a bit too high? Or are you confusing that fizz derived mud as compression? It is a bit muddy on the low strings, and is very loose. That's why most think of it as compression. But it's actually not, and is very hard to get a tight bassy tone from it.

Oh, and it squishes gloriously when you pick hard... LOVE IT!

But remember, it was designed for a guitarist that spens 90% of his time playing on solo mode. Not so much a rhythm machine.

hmm maybe. wasn't my guitar i tested it with. hahah okay got it!

I love my Line 6 uber metal, responsible for the tone here

Sounds better than anything I ever did. I don't even downtune.

Former Line 6 Uber Metal user here. For some reason I found that mine sounded very 'choked' and in the end I got something else to replace it. Was thinking that there might have been something wrong with mine because there're plenty of youtube videos of it and somehow they all sound a whole lot better than mine did. In fact, they sounded awesome...

I still prefer amp distortion to pedal distortion. Most pedals sound good at lower volumes only to sound boxy and compressed, thin and fizzy and yada yada at jamming and gig volumes.

I tried the TL2. Its not too bad though it still sounds like a pedal.

Honestly.....I'm quite satisfied with my Wampler Pinnacle.

Super versatile, though some might complain that it doesn't give enough chug. I think it does, though.

That's because it IS a pedal. No pedal will ever really sound like an amp, and honestly? i wouldn't want it to. I want an exportable tone. not something I can only get at one location and have to sort out my tone all over again somewhere else.

The TL2 nicely delivers. Though i'm more inclined to use my Valve Distortion these days than the TL2.

Hows the TL2 compared to SC2? I wanna get a dist that's versatile in the sense that, can go chuga chuga, but at the same time can gimme that sweet lead tone,(think Vai sweet).
