Yo,

has anyone here come across Carnauba wax in any of the shop in Singapore?

i need it to wax the maple binding of my guitar neck. as the finishing is quite thin, and it will wear off easily thus exposing the bare wood.

or is there some other product which can be applied to protect the maple binding?

Thanks Guys :D

Wax?
There's the dunlop version of it... available at, well, a lot of shops.

But dude.

Your ibanez.

Its a satin finished maple neck.
No need to add a layer of finish to it lah..... it wouldn't "Wear off". In fact, the more you play, the smoother & more shiny it will become.

Don't worry.

Never heard of an Ibanez that needed a neck refinish due to normal playing wear... let alone a J Custom.

but in case u really need carnuaba wax

Autobacs at Bukit batok
sells "Eagle 1" brand 100% carnuaba wax

It's a car wax
not bad for cars
dunno how good for guitar necks

Dan: its not the neck, but the binding of the fretboard, it has different finish compared to the neck. it feels more like..wood without finishing and it gets dirty after i just used it for a few times. im afraid the finishing will wear off.

Ratboy: Thanks man :)

That's because, the binding is maple (wood) binding...

Leave it be.

You want to add a finish on it... you might just ruin the whole feel.

ooh so its perfectly alright. i scare my sweaty palm might damage it, thats why thought of adding finishing to it.

Thanks man :D

Aiyo....

DUDE!

Okay, now 3 mths down, you'll find this thread and have a little giggle moment.

Just play the guitar.

Worry more about the hardware, that one WILL CORRODE. Have a good wipe down every time and inbetween playing / resting time.

If you wish, you may save up to purchase a CHROME edge pro unit from www.ibanezrules.com The Chrome is much more sturdy though still nothing like the Edges of yesteryear sadly.

Haha ok

at least hardware spoil can be easily replace, but if neck got problem..then damn jia lat liao. just taking extra care :D

doubt i will change unless it really corrode till very badly :)

hey spider, your thread says "does anyone know if SG sells Carnauba wax"

Yes - I am one of them and I know where. You go to shaw centre building,at 3rd floor there is a shop call Handyman's center. You should be able to find there. They are sold in raw cube form, like candle wax. so you goto boil them yourself or thin it with the right ratio for your use.

Tru-Oil is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Have not tried the Wax but i did my USACG guitar body with Tru-Oil. Nice.

As to how the finish on your neck wore off... well... okay... that's a 1st. :)

pinkspider: I offered an alternative solution to you as the previous posts did not indicate where you can get the wax you are looking for. I've tried the gunstock wax and seen great results, that's why I recommended it.
As ripper pointed out above, you need to boil the Carnauba wax and then apply it on your neck, troublesome don't you think? Gunstock wax is in liquid form and very easily applied to the areas you want.

not everyone wants to order wax from US, thus the thread title. So just stick to the thread will ya

your gunstock wax is it better than ear wax?

Yamaha used to see a nice warwick beeswax
Can alway post a wtb in the bass section
think most Warwick owners will have a can
( that can last for years )

Order from the US.

The gun stock wax, if you google and do your research, comes highly recommended by quite a community.

SG doesn't always have the best and just spending that extra $ + enduring the small inconvenience + waiting patiently, you would get better, possible even the best, stuff.

Its an Ibanez J-Custom. Not your RG321.

Ripper: Thanks man, but it seems quite a hassle to do all those before using. I think the gunstock wax is a better alternative.

Rossie: Thanks for your recommendation :D Might pm you regarding some questions.

Im still quite confuse whether the finishing on the binding of the neck will wear off. Cause i read from Jemsite, it seems like that will happen, and the binding will be like raw wood?

If that's the case, i do not understand why would they want to do this to a high end ibanez.

PinkSpId3r, try to contact Malcolm for advice. Maybe ask him if he is free for 10 mins to advise you, and you go down to his place in Bedok.

If its just bare wood, you could Tru-Oil (not wax) the neck for a proper finish.

But listen to what Malcolm says.

Again, this one is J-Custom hor, a little more time + effort + $ spent for your baby.

ah shreddy, i remember you had to go thro certain channels to bring in tru oil!!!

My ash body and that montrous 12 string baritone neck should be on the way soon. Will probably do some dyeing and danish oil finish.

Oh, you ordered the body parts already? That's cool! Please share the building process man... Its something to see wood become instruments!

For my tru-oil, just ebay it. ;) Expensive though. And it took me 3 mths to finish finishing my guitar body.
