Can get and actually getting are two very different issues. I like girl A, who's a 6/10, but girl B likes me, who's a 4/10. But I'm not interested in girl B at all, so... so what if she likes me? My goal isn't achieved. In this case, your friends can't help Sheehan be straight... My idea is: bragging about isn't as cool as getting that hot blonde that everyone drools about.
Then again, I think we have two very different mindsets and angles when it comes to the topic.

I guess my largest concern is not for bassist who can show off their immense talents or be one heck of an entertainer. I'm talking about bassists who hide in the shadows.
You see, so many non-musicians I know who aren't as into the scene can't tell a bass from a guitar, so they probably would not understand how a bass works/functions. They just know it as the 4 string guitar that's easier to play because he presses one note at a time and strums on it for what seems to be forever. I've even seen arguments on youtube over a six string bass being a guitar. Therefore, we already lose out to drums purely because everyone knows drums. We have known what drums are since we were probably. Eg. Mommy taught us when we were three: D for drums. Duh!
Showboating wise, it's almost always the vocalist's and guitarists' game. Vocalists get to interact with the crowd the most, guitarists show off their fast fingers when shredding and the high pitch of the guitars alone gathers all the attention to him. Keyboards and bass just pale in comparison to the drums purely because of coolness factor (you should see the number of girls I know who want to learn drums).
When it comes to famous bassists, most guys just know the standard few. Eg. John Myung, Billy Sheehan, Nikki Sixx, Victor Wooten. When we look at famous bands such as U2, A7X, Racer X, the first people that come to your minds aren't the bassists eh( I am a bassist and I don't know the names of the bassists of U2 and A7X although I can recall The Edge and Synister Gates)? If this bretheren of mostly guys agree with me, I don't think there's much to argue about the girls who just listen for the catchy music.
I'm talking about the bassists who stand as far back as the drummer because he wants to hear the drumbeats clearly, because he's more of a musician than an entertainer(I'm not saying that those who entertain are bad, I'm just saying that some of us are bad at doing two things at the same time).
Some of us bassists just cover the low end, so we either drown out in the mix(common rookie mistake), or we just get felt, and not heard and seen.
Sheesh, I'm digressing too too much.
I'm arguing about the general bass player, not in his personal life. When he's on stage, in songs, in music videos, is he overshadowed(in general) by the rest of the band, the sexy dancers that dance around the band.
Do we get attention if we do not make the extra effort to entertain the crowd? Do we deserve more? Or do we(bassists) need to do something to up our presence?

so bad sia keep gf inside cage. lol! show her ur bass skills man! make sure she doesn't fall for others but you. Do good in music, girls will come naturally. Bassist do get the girls if tats wat u wanna know. Japanese Visual Rock, The bassist are the one that get the girls and fame. haha! I love everything tat u said. its so true. Bassist are cool. I myself is a bassist too. When i first started out as a musician i wanna play guitar so badly because of the attention you get, didn't like it at first when i was being kicked to bass playing at 1st in my band. But after years of knowing music, bass is fun and important in the element of music. Japanese Rock music seems to focus more on bass tats what get me in. Thou their style of playing isn't as good compared to the american, but they bring bass playing to a new style and gets people in it. It's easy to find guitarist on streets but not bassist and drummer. Every instrument has its good point. A good band requires all instrument. So yeah, be proud of what we're playing and do it good! If you need motivation, Japanese Rock bassist seems to get the fame and girls ! haha!
