do ALOT of singaporeans buy their local band music?

No. Nothing difficult to figure out, nothing to discuss. The answer is evident. Go to a distro and ask the man/woman/boy/girl sitting there, he/she will tell you very honestly.

free? never heard of that..$4 was the cheapest for a demo. and compilations are given out free during gigs because the ticket price compensates.

out of every 100 singaporeans, probably about 5 to 10 max own local music. I'm just guessing though.

well.... is just like a question of "would you get sony or akira for LCD TV?" let face it, music industry is always going to be a mass market industry... if the CD of a local bands can provide a entertain values that a international bands like coldplay, oasis ...etc , then i think people locally would start getting them.

Prolly much lower than that. Like 5 - 10 outta 10,000 Singaporeans.

Electrico's debut album sold like 3,000 copies only but if you include Stephanie Sun's sales, we might get 5 - 10 outta 1,000 peeps.

i think this thread should have a poll.i dont buy local music but im looking forward to buying one someday.

The 1st Taufik album sold 30,000+ albums. Good for him.

hmm maybe the discrepancy we see right here (the difference of sales) is due to the amount of advertising/public exposure that a local musician gets. cos i believe that if you mention taufik to just any youngster, they probably will recognise this person. but if the media fails to give sufficient attention to the local bands, sgpreans will not be even aware of them, it is no wonder that the sales is comparably low.

in fact, if i did not come across this forum, i will not even know there's so many local bands out there! xD ive yet to check them all out!

i just after the sky's new album yesterday at Straits records.. one of the greatest! very "Alexisonfire" i must say!

local cds that i have bought is plainsunset's the gift and love songs for the emotionally wounded, secret seven's "take it back", Recover's Self titled, My precious' self titled and "Missing tom" split with gauge means nothing, Distrust's "World of Tomorrow", Elegy for eulisza demo. Many more that i can't think of rite now, just plain lazy to go and get them out.. hahaha!

hell yeah we should support local!

Dime : what more are you waiting for? straits records sells plenty of local stuffs, go get em..

Taufik was groomed to be a product right from the start. He could take it and was willingly to play the game. I'm happy that he sold so many CDs. It subverts the general mindset a little. A Malay boy staying in Bukit Batok who can inspire such passion and people who are willing to part with their money.

We are all sub-cultures, punk, metal, indie, drum'n'bass, nu-rave, etc. We all rely on a strong mainstream so that the other sub-cultures can thrive. The spillover effect is there.

Anyway, as long as you are on TV these days, you can sell anything!

Must support local music! Bought my first local cd when i was 16, Humpback Oak's Pain Stained Morning and I have no regret till today, even though i end up eating plain biscuit during recess for 1 week.
