DIY pedals

hey guys. i was just wondering how to make DIY pedals?

where do i get those parts?
Do i need to get a standard pedals first then i do some modify to it?
Or i can just put all the parts and thenfix it myself to get all the effects?
Like they sell like eg. distortion DIY pack. all the parts inside and i just join all the parts together.
Or i need to find to find the blueprint for the item eg. distortion then go head hunt for all the parts?
IF i need to head hunt for them. Then where to sell the core parts? Cause i only see those other common parts. Places like? Sim lim tower?
Where do i find Blueprints for all the wiring too? i didnt see online.
I'm pretty interested in starting it as a hobby. BUT i'm LOST and HEADLESS about everything on DIY pedals.

GUYS ENLIGHTEN ME.
Educate me on pedals too. i just started not long ago on the guitar.
Effect? what are the lists of effects? basic ones? advance ones?
Multi effect? Single Pedal?

GUYS! I need help!

if the effects builders/modders here (edder, gsonique, ark, embryo) collaborate and start a "build your own effects" course, like that best, then we can all sign up for the course.

other than that, google your way thru' like what shredcow said, simlimtowerise yourself, read books on electronics, if you want, reverse-engineer those cheapo Behringer pedals, etc, etc.

but seriously, i think there's a market for such things, always see such related threads once in a while.

there's no market for this type of things. it just seems like there is one.

anyway got no patience and time to teach lah. I'd rather drink beer when I have free time.

bro agingyouth bro, share with us your whiskey experiences!

Its harder to reverse Behringer pedals than boutique pedals...

Because nowadays most boutique pedals are just reversed-engineered pedals of other peoples work.

To the thread starter:
If you've only recently picked-up guitar, why would you want to focus your time of building an effect? When you don't even know much about effects?

If you're going for the build your own clone route. Its not really gona be worth it in most sense anyway.

Firstly, you dont learn anything.
Secondly, why build a clone? Get the real thing isnt it better?
if you think with a clone you can customise it to the specs you want, its really just gona be the same with a stock original one...

UNLESS of cos... Its a no longer for sale pedal.

And lastly. if the effect fails? how you gona debug it.
Or if you burn something, whats next?

But BYOC is still the safest route to go if you insist...

hi weijin,

A good place to start is to go www.geofex.com, there a FX technology on the top left menu, click on that and go to "Tubescreamer"

Tubescreamer is a classic overdrive circuit to study and a good starting point.

But the explanation there assumes u have a basic electronic background. So u got to get an electronic book and do some study.

National Library. Thats where I learn most of my stuff that they don't teach in school.

hur hur hur... I'm trained in chemicals... so there.

if edder can solder, so can you!

I managed to build one simple LPB and a looper. After that experience, I tell myself just go and buy.

Yeah, building your own can be a pain sometimes.. I actually find that the hardest thing to do is make your stompbox look presentable.. Had a small disaster using the wrong kinds of paints once. Haha! But the process can be addictive..

(I like whiskey too.. And beer. And stout.. All at the same time is a no-go, though.. )

thanks guys.
I not very educated in all the effects but i do have working tools. tones of them which i can access to.
If really able to produce a similar one at a lower price. why not?
DUDES! cash-strapped! one on-shelf pedals are so ex!

Chances are making pedals are more expensive. For your information, 2nd hand Boss pedals tend to go really cheap since they're in abundance in SG.

Thanks man. But after seeing all the information given.
BIG headache. so much things to know!
SO do i stick with DIY stomp box or should i go get a few ready made ones?
OR multi-effect to do it all?

I'm lazy to reply you further. Sorry, the way of the DIY means you gotta google more than you talk on forums. Read on the Posting Guidelines here. The Guitar Sticky thread should also be a good starting point for you to find stuff. Searching the forum would help as well. Have fun.
