DIY Pedal Makers: How do you paint/finish your efx pedals ?

I got my TS-808 clone running and sounding good, but it looks kinda thrashy with that stock aluminium look. I want to paint it, I just sanded the whole enclosure and it looks spanking shiny now.

What paint you guys use and how you guys go about doing it ? Are they any special steps that I must pay attention to, to get a good paint job ?

I read on the net that Krylon is recommended and they bake it in the oven. Or just a normal spraypaint and everything will be equally good as well? or a marker pen.?

Any suggestions will be great !

So after not diying for some time, i've decided to start again as there are still spares around.

My last attempt at painting involved only sanding and your regular spray can, as you already know, it flaked off. I've been reading all the DIY methods of those forums but one thing that bugged me the most was they kept using american brand names and i don't know what kind of paint/ sealer they are using.

So right now I think i'm going to use etching primer onto the bare enclosure, before painting, so it can have something for the paint to grab on.

Any gurus would kindly like to share where can I get Etching Primer in a spray can format in Singapore? I tried the regular hardware/ paint shop but no luck so far.

ok, I've been building pedals and I have read that you have to bake your enclosures, baking it in an oven after painting

I used to bake the enclosure before, then I stopped. No difference to me, just use a good etching primer You can find it at any DIY store, like self-fix (is that it?)

yup a good primer is needed, i think a spray based primer would be convenient

i dun think an oven is required if u manage to get very thin layers of primer sprayed onto the enclosure. wait until the layer is completely dry before going for another layer

i guess the more layers the better

after the primer coating u can then use acrylic paint to spray over the enclosure

stay away from enamel paint, very hard to dry from my experience hahah

when using a spray paint the key it to make the coat as thin as possible

hi guys, sorry i dont mean to hijack but may i know where you guys get the aluminium enclosure from? and how much? plus if you guys dont mind, may i know what are the diameters(?) of drill bits do you guys use to drill the pots, the jacks and the footswitch holes? thanks.

hey, this might be outdated but here it goes.

I used to get mine at Sim Lim tower 4th floor, can't remember which shop, they do have it in dimensions like the MXR type. Later on I got some at TYMC at peninsular basement. For the drill bits, i have tried the various diameters twist drill bits, but later on i got the Unibit from small bear electronics, an online store, and man, thats the one you ever need for drilling enclosure. I believe they can be found at larger hardware stores.
