Distortion or Overdrive

but then, no use spending money on buying footswitch for not-so-good amps... espcially when the drive is very muddy...(like mine). Unless you're using some bogner uberschall or boutique amps..

Haha. good amps la.. anyway, i hijack this thread for a while..

dudelove, which one will be better? ibanez valbee, Vox AC4 or VOX AD50. because i've got a friend saying that I should just buy the hybrid 50watts if i wanna buy some 6.5inch tube amps..

There isnt really a better there you cant really compare a small amp with a big amp most importantly which sound do you prefer. Who cares if its a 6.5 inch amp if you like the tone its good enough. Unless you want to gig with them then you need a 12 inch speaker. No point getting a big amp if your just practising anyway. My suggestion is get the amp with the tone you like and get AD30 instead of 50 dont need that much volume anyway.

well, the person say 50watt got more depth-.- and 6.5inch will sound like shit... but I myself wanna get the lowest wattage tube amp then i can blast at home at a lower volume and at the same time, utilises the tubes.... can this work?

Its not really true because at home you wont be able to blast 50watts at it max you will probably be lowering it to 15 watts or something wont have a big difference in tone at all thats for the VOX ad wheres theres a function to reduce wattage output.

Should you go try them out and see which you prefer even if you juice up a low watt tube amp theres no gurentee you will like the tone. Like i said theres no better here is more about what you like best. Go test them out , do keep in mind tubes dont mean better.

But if you asked me i would pick the AD30 simply for it flexibilty. If you really want a tube amp go try it out and see if you like it. Personally i would spend money on what i can utilise most. To me theres no point getting a tube amp if i am just practising , cause most of the money is spent of the tubes. You dont get the choice of setting your EQ cant really gig with and still need maintance.

a 25 watt amp is sufficient , I'm using a 15 watt mini stack with 10 inch speakers . Sounds perfectly fine to me

teleplayer,

the ibanez valbee has 6.5 inch speakers. somehow, u get nice warm tone but the amp lacks headroom and the speaker make ur guitar sound abit small.

i have no idea abt the vox ac4..

the ad50vt uses celestion speakers. 12 inches. i personally think its too loud for home use. i have a vox ad30vt 10 inch vox speakers. with my volume maxed and master volume at 830 its super duper loud already.

my advice, listen to ized and zax, i'm super duper duper impressed by the fender frontman amps. i used to think they were the fender equivalent of the marshall mg series. i still do think the frontman's in built drive is a bit.. lacking, but its a fantastic fantastic pedal amp. brilliant cleans that imo, can match a tube amp, and to top it all off, its built in reverb is lovely..

i like!!

tube or not it doesnt matter. sounds good can already. tube amps sound brilliant, not all but most of them sound better than solid states. but i feel they are too loud for home use. investing in attenuator will be costly.

so go for practicality..

well, the person say 50watt got more depth-.- and 6.5inch will sound like shit...

50watts at volume 1 might just be putting out the SAME dB level as a 15w at volume 3. Large wattage matters ONLY when you need to project. 15w maxed out is WAY too loud for your bedroom already.

You want nice distortion with reasonable speaker and good amp? Laney LC15R.

so you guys recommend me not to buy the valbee la? maybe considering the vox ad30 haha there are effects on it.. for the marshall mini stack.. how tall is it ah? because my room is damn small...

dude just go try all of them la. you ask here also have no idea of the sound,
skali buy alr don't like how...

well i no time go to different places try mah... my parents even forbid me to go brah basah during weekends-.- say i spent too much time on guitars..

u just want the valbee cos its a tube amp right??

u really really really shouldnt judge things solely on them being tube or having this or have that feature. or someone says this good that bad.

u really should try them out for urself.. or at least make an effort to find demos or clips of ppl playing them. that isnt a good gauge of gear but at least its better than listening solely to what ppl say..

There are good solid state amps and shitty tube amps. Vice versa.

just go try all of them out, and run a search on the forum for the amps we have talked about. i'd recommend the fender frontman 25r for bedroom playing though. its super loud (most of the time the volume never goes above 3) and its loud enough for that occasional pub/club gig if miked up properly.

A friend of mine recently asked if he could borrow that amp for his gig at blu jazz.

+1 for the Frontman 25. Heard the cleans and quite impressed by it. Got that Fender signature sound.
