Dimazrios or EMGs?

Hey guys, thinking of modding my guitar before i get a new one.

Currently looking at EMGs 81/85 set. Or Dimarzios' Air norton, Breed or the paf joe. Recommendations for neck and brdige pickups? Cant really decide. Opinions?

yup.shiok's right.why bother?and how do we help you when u don't state your guitar and the type of music u play -.-?

oh its a washburn 248. Strat type. I play like heavy rock and metal stuff. well it might be awhile before i get a new guitar so yeah, plus the pups on these arent fantastic.

so like for dimarzios, according to their website. Air norton for the neck and tone zone for the brdige. Wat u guys think? Or just EMGs 81/85?

it's really according to what you have in mind:

*are you after sizzling hot drive? (actives are arguably best)

*are you after some organic interaction with your amp?

Well thats a good question sub. I would prefer a hotter drive. What do you mean by organic interaction? As in more flexibilty? More feel in the playing? What are your recommendations?

it's like this sir:

-active units are quite a one-trick pony, if you aim to raise hell, it's an excellent option. other than that, it's quite at a lost (think: restraint drive/ blues crunch/ cleans...) because the non-active options are excellent & preferred in this domain

-the passive pickups clean up up better if you lower the guitar volume. IMO this gives the player another palette of tones to work with in addition to the pedals/ amps the player utilizes. the active counterpart is quite adverse in this light because it works on a pre-amp basis where the pickup is being pushed to give more (output) when what the player really needs, at times, is less.

is one better than the other? nope- it's what you need that counts.

so more likely the dimarzios will be able to play wat the emg can with more tonal flexibilty? Do the EMGs play well when clean? So say ur a versatile player who likes to play loud and heavy. But u appreciate the nice bluesy clean sounds as well. Would the dimarzios be a better pick? Choices choices choices..

i'm a big Duncan fan, just being objective to Mr. Midnight's queries here. anyway, i own the Invader, currently resident in my Ibanez S540:

or try this one

Both invader....neck and bridge...

Do take note there are 2 types of invaders...

Invader neck and invader bridge...

Each possess diffrent tone...

But the neck is wad i like....very strong yet warmn tone....

nice. Im just wondering if the EMGs play well clean? They do well in other genres besides metal right? If they do id probably grab em.

try emg 81/85 and run it in 18v(2 battery) and you will not look at passive again............................ clean like passive and growls in high gain and no noise!!!!!
