secondly, im beginning to feel that my strat dosen't pack enough punch although i love the clear sound, and yes its ash body.

You can make single coils pack a punch too you know, if you know how to set up your rig properly ;) Technically the difference between humbuckers and single coils is that humbuckers have a higher output level than single coils, so if you raise the output level from your single coil or increase the gain at your pedal/amp you will basically get the same effect. Some artistes swear to the method of increasing the level of single coil pickups by using a booster pedal, like malmsteen. But of course sonically there are other differences, and it boils down to preference, but you seem to like the tone of your guitar.

yes i do love my strat..thats why i'm still pretty reluctant to part with it..lol ok basically for all who diss mexican strats..yes the standard ones are crap but as for this classic 70s series baby..it kicks ANY US STANDARD STRAT 'S ASS ANYTIME. in fact in harmony central it even recieves much better reviews than standard gibson les pauls. but whos to judge anyway...personal prefrence. and as for those who diss noobs like me for owning good guitars..hey who started out a pro? and quit whining, go get a job and make some money to buy good gear.

you can raise the output of your single coils as much as you want but it'll never be a humbucker...

Same goes, a humbucker will never be a single coil as well ;)

i've been eyeing the classic '70s reissue Fender for some time actually, i was interested because of the ash body but the 50th Ann Strat came my way & it's also ash + some modern appointments, so i had a go at it & i must say i'm happy...

in addition to the '70s, the '50s reissue is also a good guitar to invest in.

with regards to the pickup discussion here, it's really a matter of taste & needs. the humbucker can't pull off the 'twang' of a single coil, no matter how much coil tapping/ splitting is involved & the single coil can't do the nice palm-mute chug at high gain, without sounding 'clanky'. if you've been playing guitar for a whie, there is this security that sets it once you own both humbucking & single coil equipped guitars 8)
