Dell Booth at IT Show at Suntec City

Last week I went to purchased a Dell desk top. I paid the full amount and they promised delivery between 5 to 7 working days. I called them yesterday to make sure my order has been processed. To my surprise they told me that the delivery date has been changed to end of the month. This is something absurd for a MNC like Dell to behave in such a manner. They did not even bother to inform me about the delay until I called them. I cancelled the order because I could not wait till end of the month. I was told that they will only refund the money to me in a week's time. This is rediculous.
Therefore guys before you make any purchases with Dell, think twice.

Which booth did you go to? If im not wrong there were different companies running the booths...

I too had my own share of bad experience, bought a Dell Studio 15 from the IT Fair, only to realize that the graphics card was faulty and would cause the whole screen to flicker with these weird pixels and followed by the White Screen of Death.

Went back the next day and changed to another model... At least they allowed me to change.

wow i'm surprised at dell for this kinda reputation. I was planning to get dell when my HP laptop dies in future... better stick to simlim-fuwell/videopro for desktops..

If you can't wait til the end of the month, go down and bang table, demanding a refund. Then go down to Sim Lim and get yourself something nicer. Trust me, it's worth it.

the problem could lie with vendors at the IT fair, because i have never had problems with dell. my family's desktop is a dell, my old laptop (which is 3 years old and functioning decently) is a dell, and neither have needed any form of maintenance. also i recently purchased a monitor that was delivered 2 days earlier than the stipulated 5-7 working days. all these were online transactions though, not through external vendors.

or maybe i'm the lucky one.

yeah, ultimately the customer service experience depends largely on the individuals running the show. so if you happen to encounter screwed up staff, you will get screwed up service. somehow this is becoming common among big companies, where the people at the top are so far away from the people on the ground. consider the fact that a sales job at Dell isn't the hardest job in the world to land

i bought a dell desktop from the IT fair too. but they told me that it'll come by the end of the month though..why would they tell you different things? i purchased the desktop on the first day at about 3. but it's alright...i'm a patient person. it's probably not their fault anyway with the suddenly flux in incoming orders.

just be patient...life's too short to get bent out of shape over every little thing..

Definately a Mac for my next computer.

possibly the problem of the delay is the sudden surge in orders compared to what was originally promised. Don't forget, Dell is quite popular as its quite cheap and it gives you a quick fix for your buck. Quality wise, will be debated at a later time, but perhaps too many orders and too little stock caused them to inevitably delay orders.

I would suggest for desktops, go custom build them for the specific reason you need them. It's cheaper and it'll last longer. My computer is 3 or 4 years old, built for medium-gaming then. Still lasts, although I'm not anymore into games and neither can this computer handle recent games.

Mac is the way to go... although there are somethings which are not compatible but the startup speed and whatnot is still faster than windows... and it will maintain at that speed.. even good brands like HP's startup speed will slow down to 15minutes to just startup...

This type of situations always occur during any IT fairs.Even the notebook fairs in school.Once ,My laptop order got delayed for a month when i bought it. reason due to lots of orders and all. Its unlikely to happen in a store where you can pay cash and carry the laptop home.

eh? u also kena ah? i thought i was the only one. anyway i ordered my customized dell studio 1555. this is what they gave me

Current Status: Work In Progress
Estimate Delivery Date: 30-Mar-2009
Kindly note that the Estimated Delivery Date is subject to change without notice.

i was like WTF! i cant wait till 30th march. but anyway now i'm trying to talk to their customer service and trying to like arrange something that can get my lappy here faster. ;)

oh for studio 15s this is the reason why they have to delay.

Hi Kiraely,

Thank you for your email.

I'm afraid that is the bad news for you.

The model you have purchase is a new unit and our 1st batch of screen has a few shortfalls and affected across all region.

Currently we are awaiting for the 2nd batch of the improved version screen.

Estimated time of arrival will be end of March 2009. We are still awaiting more positive answers from production.

We regret that this delay has caused so much inconvenience.

Please let us know if you would still like to proceed with this order?

Many thanks.

Warmest Regards,

Daniel Ong

UGH!

I'm glad you said that! I've regretted not changing my defective Studio 15 for another new set of Studio 15 at the IT fair and instead got myself another model. Though i really liked the studio 15 ... ARGH just my bad luck...
