Davis Guitar Shop.

Yo Nitro,Try something i did awhile back:.

Haha ok... But for me, I'd rather treat them like humans. I think its a bit nicer for me (and does more good for my relationship with the shop if I should need more stuff later on in my life) to walk up to someone and...

Ask for help ;)

Its funny how I think personally I hate (numerous, at different times) sales people bugging me with 'may i help you' and hawking when I look at pics etc; when I'm aware that others actually prefer them to come up and ask if help is needed. Maybe they should do the 'polyclinic ticket thingy'... 'Press green button for help, red button if you don't want to be bothered'

Kiddin' ;)

Davis is ok...

Haha the same thing I notice is... The best service is always from the smaller shops who know they have Swee Lee and Davis etc to compete with... So they try to pull customers with their really good service.

Only if they carry more stuff I need... Like DR bass strings! Davis has them, and by the way I have no problems anywhere. Lucky? I don't know. Probably just my approach, putting myself in grumpy saleseople's shoes and guessing how they feel at that point of time. Then I ask for what I need. And smile. How many customers actually smile?

Man nel's gone overseas. He was the best man of citymusic..ofcoz with bernett. Bt now therez bernett..so thankful. Phew.. :P

Yeah, I prefer to look around on my own too, I get nervous and start wanting to leave the shop if a salesperson keeps following me around. Maybe that's why I think Davis's service isn't that bad :D

I heard the service at US guitar shops are good, but most of the time, the salespeople don't know what they're selling. At least this is what i heard from US guitar forums, they seem to be particularly prejudiced towards Guitar Center.

i agree luther is good... once went in to get strings.. they dun have and even told me with a smile to go to the shop beside or davis :D

but still.. i did not go to davis after i came out from luther.. that place is like burning with anger............ see liao i scared  ...look inside machiam so scary lolx

I think we can expect them to 'snatch' guitars during peak hours especially, when many customers wanna try instruments in their small shop. Personally, I was given space at Davis, to try OLPs. I even asked them if i could do some minor adjustments to a different bass to compare, no problem. Funny thing was, I left the shop, then realised i forgot to look at guitar stands, the boss's son, said 'oi', and passed me a free pack of Bass strings for fivers... Not that bad rite the service?

well, i forgot to add tht i was at there during of peak hrs, no one queing up to try guitar

Nah I think they already know, Janet's their secret revenue-gainer. Silent, passive and deadly effective especially to young, rich male customers.

You can count me as one of those, man...Hahaha...except for the rich part....

Janet, huh? Only now do I know her name. The other lady is the daughter-in-law, isn't she? They din look like sisters to me...

Well, it does help if we make friends with one or two sales staff. Then just talk cock, and seague silently into trying their equipment as part of your conversation piece.

I've personally encountered good service at Ranking Sports. I went there to buy a Danelectro compressor pedal. I ask the auntie if I could try the pedal, she said'Of course. Buy things must always try first.' Then after setting up the rig, she left em alone to try and nv bothered me. Until I got paiseh for taking so long, cos the pedal is pretty simple and I liked what I heard, so I got up and just paid for it. They have some good stuff there, btw.

Luther is a great guy, cos he doesn't speak like a sales staff, more like a musician talking to another musician. Sales staff tend to want to make the sales, but he doesn't come across like he's desperate to seal the deal.

Btw, anyone had the experience of wanting to try the guitars locked up in the glass prison at Swee Lee or Yamaha, or any shops with similar confinements for their precious Les OPauls and Strats? I'd like to know their (the sales staff) general attitude towards customers who are interested in those axes. There may come a time when I might actually be able to afford one of those...

usually at first they're skeptical if you look young. but if you show some serious interest in potentially buying one of those instruments, they're more accomodating. it also helps if you know what you want to try before going in, so that they have an idea of what you're going for. going in there to browse around probably won't make them too happy.

i've been looking for an acoustic guitar, so i was in and out of the glass prisons at swee lee a few weeks ago and yamaha last weekend. i think i still need to hit up City Music (they have Martins there right?). tell them what you want and ask to go in, and give them confidence in you so that they trust you to take care of their gear.

Personally, I tried the $3000+ Taylors at Sinamex, and they never even bat an eyelid. But nowadays I dun touch them, cos i can't afford to pay if I damage anything...

I've gone in quite a no. of times just to try guitars for the sake of trying them. It helps if you have friends there.
