hey guys, i was just thinking.... i might want to order a custom made guitar... but i have no idea whom to order from... so far, i can only think of either ordering from carvin, or getting parts from warmoth and elsewhere, then getting a guitar techie to put it all together.... which is more money-smart though? just wanna know... thanks!

yeah, thanks for the input.... but i was thinking that all those big brand custom shops would be ridiculously pricey... i was trying to find the cheapest method though...

If I not wrong, sometime ago someone did mention about getting a custom guitar from malaysia and he succeeded with a spending of 1K plus I think. The custom guitar was really made from scratch... haha... it is somewhere in the forum... can't remember liao... u can do a search though...

oh yeah, mr. fretless or fretless bass or something like that right? yeah, he got an 8 stringer i think... wicked stuff.... yeah, perhaps i should ask him... good idea!

That is GIM guitars of Malaysia.
Those "branded" custom shops are known to be ridiculous becuase they only allow you to work with their preferred partners e.g. pickup and hardware companies...

Custom guitars? Hmm...You better know what you want. I personally wouldnt blow money off after playing 1 or 2 instruments and going straight to a custom luthier. Most would regret it. Sometimes we are better off modding existing guitars etc

Hello AsphaltMK

I had a Telecaster and a Strat body setup from scratch with NNG Guitars, which is run by a Thai luthier, Prasit.

He is accomodating, his pricing is reasonable, you can even supply your existing set of pickups and he is able to procur some of the well-grained woods, if thats your interest.

Alternatively, just get a 2nd hand guitar you like and mod accordingly (as 3noteAbar suggests).

US custom shops do a wonderful job as well on instruments. The extra $ you pay are for the higher workmanship cost in generating a (normally) higher level of finishing/craftsmanship.

You buy first hand purely because you are looking at a customised keeper guitar (no intention to sell), else you should just get a 2nd hand mint version.

However, if you dont know exactly what you want in a customised instrument, you'd be paying for a costly lesson, lol.

YMMV

try music man, i think chan min got one custom made, not sure how much though, but the specs on the website looks real good...

Oh I see....because I thought it was your PERSONAL recommendation so I assumed you had purchased something from them before..

Hmm

I looked through the material they used as well as their body shapes. I gotta say they provide a super wide range & of good quality which will last. My personal recommendation definitely bec they got the stuffs that I wanted, but cuz me poor, so bo $$ to buy it. Well maybe when I get richer?

If you know what you want , you might get the parts here and assemble it here in singapore. I have a swamp ash strat body with an all maple neck with ken armstrong vintage sounding pick up.

I am very happy with this guitar I will not buy any more guitar for some time

cheers
