Corey Nonis of Heritage has passed away.

RIP Corey. Despite the fact I didn't have the chance to meet up with him since end of 2006, I guess I will never forget the time we jammed "Whole Lotta Love" in Guitar Workshop.

I am also corey's student...worst thing is i recieved the news the day i arrived in hong kong...he was psyched about the clinic and he wanted me to play for his side band agung mountain...i couldnt even attend his wake or funeral...But i will miss him

my condolences to kevin corey's family and all of his close friends.
i was really shocked to hear the news on saturday morning, i still am.
i am still trying to grapple the fact that corey has passed away.
i knew corey through a friend in 1990. it was some band thing and at that time pony canyon was big with signing local acts. corey was gigging around.
sometime in 1994 i replaced straitjacket's then bass player syed and corey was in the band already. it was not easy for corey then as the leader/vocalist always lectured corey in between sets but being corey, he just took it in one ear and out the other. only the gig mattered.
later, i realised that he only wanted to get behind the drums and play.
corey did not have a job back then, he scrounged around and got some willing drummers to teach him.
from what i know, gordon jansen (heritage) was one kind soul who actually coached corey in between students. corey would hang out at the studio for nearly 8 to 10 hours, just to get in 15 or so minutes of gordon's time in between students. i would see him getting coffee, drinks and snacks...and i would also tease him.
it was just corey being corey.
later that year in 1994, corey left and was replaced with gary tan in straitjackets. during that hiatus, corey participated in the battle of the bands with clinton carnegie, fendi and a damn good bass player. they played originals.
i bumped into corey sometimes, and he was always gigging with someone, somewhere but his pursuit of drumming was still being realised.
i remember, when i let him have a go at my drum machine and he refused to return it....but that was corey being corey.
later, after 2000, i heard he was now singing with his band agung mountain, then i bumped into him at borders and he asked me to invest in his pub he was setting up with a friend, of course i declined.
then i read that he joined heritage which was good for him.
which also led me to wonder how this bugger got the gig of a lifetime.
drumming was all corey wanted to do. it was his life.
though i passed some comments on his drum clinic thread that i now regret, it was just corey.
those who knew him since then would understand.
then again, those who knew him since then really do miss him and we only have one consolation that he has gone to a higher place to finally perfect his drum skill with his idol, john bonham.
we all miss you friend. you checked out too soon.
