confused!

um, first post here, so hey guys!

well i'm planning on switching from guitar to bass, but i haven't yet bought one. hmm i'm switching because my band needs a bassist and i'm finding it next to impossible to sing anything while playing lead/rhythm/aux guitar. oh and playing bass seems so much more slack.

but i've looked through these forums and i'm really confused now. i need some sort of crash course on bass, these terms are alien to me:

slapping and pooping.
tone. (bass and tone?!)
active/passive bass.
tapping.

and, i need an idiot's guide to buying a bass.

damn, mark hoppus etc. make playing bass look like a piece of cake.

playing bass is so not more slack..the bassist is the heart of the band dude..not as simple as it seems..bassists only play the root note of the chord but if tt's all u do,ur songs will be crap man..
u gotta be able to groove n move the audience too...

even if you are playing a root note, how u play it, when u play it can totally change the richness of the piece. U gotta get that 'UMPH'..bass playing is defintely not more slack

if you take up bass cos your band needs it... there's a possibility that you may end up not liking bass and wasting money on your new bass...
slap pop all that can be learnt after you grasp the basics. cos most songs can be played just through normal fingering. websites are OMG useful.

oops, been either busy or out the whole weekend and i almost forgot this forum exists. well thanks for the help guys i'll go check out those webbies to get the answers myselfff.

well i'm contemplating on bass because i like thought that if the guitarist plays a g chord and i play an f, it will become an f chord. furthermore, i wanna try something different as almost anyone can play guitar.

if you take up bass cos your band needs it... there's a possibility that you may end up not liking bass and wasting money on your new bass...

well my band's really versatile and all of us including the drummer can play guitar. we don't like the idea of fixed roles and if i get sick of bass, i'll shove it to someone else and switch back to guitar. :twisted:

um, a third guitar, complementing the rhythm and lead, something like what ed o'brien from radiohead does.

dude...first of all,bass is not slack,playing bass and do backup vocal is harder than playing guitar n backing up...
second,crash course is only for you to understand the terms,in terms of playing i dont think there's a shortcut
