Amidst all the complains, I just wanna highlight a certain enjoyable experience..

I would like to commend a certain individual working at swee lee B. basah, who has been undoubtedly very patient, welcoming, not to mention tactful and attentive (subtle, not intimidating). I'm not sure if it is appropriate to mention his name, but I'll just say it starts with an 'A'.

I say this because I frequent SL alot and not purchased anything, but yet he has been very understanding and attentive - when I try certain items he respects the space (I cannot concentrate if someone stares at me when I try) yet is within approachable radius. He also gives honest opinions and prompt service.

I purchased a guitar there last week and I have to say I am very happy with it. I received my guitar all cleaned and set up, intonated and ready to go. His great service facilitated my purchase with ease - I wasn't expecting to purchase a guitar when I went in that day - with the adequate test time and space I was able to decide swiftly.

Just for sharing! (: not all service is bad..

I also wanna commend -

The nice friendly old (but hip) man at Blackwoods

The skinny old timer at Guitar Workshop who smiled and handed me a guitar to play while I was empty handedly watching my gf play bass

Another friendly part timer (glasses wearing) at Ranking

the humble guys at TYMC for promptly replying my mails

Rui and his boss from G77 who jammed blues with me; and the malay guy who let me test the real '62 jaguar just so that I can experience 1962 on my lap

young guy at GC for his positive attitude and buying advice;let me test his two personal guitars just to let me hear what the pickups sounded like - im definitely gettin' those!

pls share!

Is it a Malay guy? I remember there was a Malay guy who helped me while I was choosing my Ibanez acoustic. Definitely good service from Swee Lee as far as I experienced. They do not approach me usually, but they're always willing to help with a smile when I ask.

Other guys I wanna commend:

- The man at Ranking Sports and Music who is around the guitar section. Perhaps late forties around there. Great service from him, even when I tell him I'm not buying anything, he'll tell me to try a few guitars anyway so that I'll get a feel of them and consider them when I buy another guitar. He's very informative and has no reluctance (he offers, actually) to let me try some guitars hovering around the $1K range. Very nice, trusting guy. I hope no asshole out there will try to exploit his good nature. The two old ladies at the counter are also very nice and helpful, which is why Ranking is one of my favourite guitar stores.

- The guys at Yamaha outlet, Thomson Plaza. It was a while ago but while I was choosing strings some years back, a big guy approached me and asked if I needed help. His good attitude should be commended.

- Mike @ Standard Value. I've complimented him a lot of times but his great service and high quality of work on repairs, maintenance, etc are exceptional. He is approachable, and replies to my PMs quickly. Great guy.

Other places I've had good service are from:
- Davis (the young ladies at the counter, not the old man who I found overly hostile).
- Guitar Connection - they ask if I want to try anything or need help. Friendly, too.
- G77 - I don't go in often but when I do, I am greeted with a smile.

Generally I've had the fortune of having mostly good service from salespeople. I don't know why, because I think I look a lot younger than I am, but I'm really thankful for great service and I think the guys I've named set a good example for other salespeople (not just guitar salespeople) to follow.

I've had great service at every shop..

Forgot this guy's name from SL Bras Basah who has always been a GREAT help..
At Davis, well my teacher is there lah.. But before he worked there also there were some who were never rude to me..
SV awesome service all the time, same goes to Maestro/Zen Guitarshop..
TY is always tactful and kind in their responses..
G77 peeps can be kind at times, but the space constraints in their shop forces them to be more forthcoming in their dealings IMO, either look around quick or test something you're like 80% gonna buy..
Blackwood no need to say lah, though I've lost touch with them for some time already (what happened to Norm and Man?)..
Pianoman shop also told me to test without me even asking..
Seekz great service all the time, both in person and online..
Music Theme and GC are places I rarely have a need to enter, same goes to Ranking so I can hardly comment about them..

So all in all, you can expect good service anywhere!

i believe its Adnan from swee lee bras basah. he helped me alot during the last dec swee lee sale cause the guitar i wanted to buy, there was no softcase which can fit it in, so he spent quite some time looking for the suitable case(ended up being a folk guitar case) but then changed my mind and didnt buy the mentioned guitar.

Blackwood, they always mind their own business, perhaps i go always go there and dont buy anything. but first few times, they greeted me warmly.

ranking, the man at the guitar section especially. always friendly and welcomes me to try the guitars, though i specifically said im not buying anything at the moment.

davis, the young malay and chinese dudes. the old ones, ermm you guys should know. no money no honey type.

maestro, everyone's so friendly. too many praises to them for their service.

there you said it - yes its adnan.. 8)

and yes, the pianomanshop - great service as well for the young boy who let me test the tokai 335 without obligations!

Yep, Adnan at SL is cool. Bought my Ibanez ART320. Other guitar salespeople should actually learn from him. Ranking has a few great people, but there's also this bitter old man there too. Not so old, around 40-50 range. But I won't go further into it other than "no money no honey".

I've had near to no reception in most guitar stores that I go into actually but Adnan is the coolest from all the experienced I've had so far. Oh yeah, Blackwood is awesome too..real cool guys in there.

Thumbs up to Adnan from SL. Went thru him twice when I bought Epiphone guitars from him. Friendly guy and always willing to go the extra mile to serve customers' needs :)

he was saying he doesn't receive any incentives when I mentioned about a customer appraisal form - maybe we shld begin a Reward-a-Adnan Fund!

I initially wanted to buy the Hofner VeryThin from Davis GMC - I requested to test it and the chinese national behind the counter pointed at the price tag before handing it over to me. Okay. Then I sat down to test, the owner twisted his face and said " this guitar is for playing jazz!". Okay. Understood. Barely a few minutes later he said time's up and snatched it away.

Enough insults for the day. Treated like a thickskinned pauper, complete gear noob in a day was too much. As much as I liked and could afford the Hofner, I simply could not take such insults in a day.

Luckily SL had a sweet casino for a coupla bucks less and wonderful service to top - made my day (:

Nice to see a positive thread like this started. We have quite enough negative threads about retailers in the past. This is a pleasant change. Keep it up people!

yeah man.. adnan.. haha i asked him to help me change my pickup. then he called me a few times to confirm whether there's push pull pot and things like that. He was very very patient with me that time over the phone. haha.

Definitely Mike from Standard Value. His knowledge of guitars, repair and modification never fails to amaze me and such outstanding customer service from him should be commended. If there was a Nobel Prize for the best customer service I would hand it to him man.

All the staff from Ranking, which include some of the Phillipino staff and the old guy with glasses. I was really afraid to try out the Razorbacks hanging at the glass case, but one word of it and they went all the way to push the guitar racks and squirm through the display to get it for me so that I could try it out. They didn't rush me or asked wether I was gonna buy it, they let me try it until I was satisfied. That is of course, I had to stop when the store became full. But still, they rock. Two thumbs up.

And If I remember correctly, Adnan gave me quite a pleasant time at SL as well. I wanted to try the Epiphone Prophecy LP Custom and he was like "Oh no problem!" and it was in my hands right away. I was like playing Pull Harder and then he was like "Oh that one Trivium right??" and I was like yeah. It was all smiles that day. Several years ago I also bought my Ibanez GSA60 from SL and there was a slight disaster as there wasn't any gig bag available. Adnan searched the store for a bit and found one for me.

To every staff and customer service assistants in these shops we just commended, KEEP IT UP! Music stores in SG need more people like you!

Cheers ;)

i had only one experience with mike that was when i bought my beta aivin pedal. great guy. and it amazes me how one person can manage the store, the website, the forum, the repair work and the mod work. and also how the brands he carries are not famous yet they really deliver. who would have heard of beta aivin, biyang or tesla if it weren't for standard value? hahaha.

yeah hope other sales people, not just guitar shops, follow the way of these salesmen whom we praise.

Perhaps we should have a vote/poll for the best retailer in music stores. Give that person a "SOFT Favorite Retailer Of the Month/Year Award" or something like that (with James' stamp of approval). Get the word out. That may actually encourage better retailing services across the industry, for whatever it's worth. Affirmation works wonders, contrary to too much criticisms. Also indirectly help that particular shop in "advertisement"...

TYMC - Friendly/courteous. Answer all my inquiries promptly too.

Blackwood - All staff make the boutique atmosphere welcoming. Special
mention to that middle age dude with the specs always willing to help.

Davis - The chinese ladies as well as the other staff there. Esp the bald malay dude. Ever willing to provide necessary aid.

Not to forget the ever humble/great Beez. Extremely talented man with a flare and passion for guitars which can be seen through his extended friendliness and ability to make you feel welcomed even if youre a first timer who has never met him before.

I would like to commend on Mr. Pedalitis for a smooth deal (:

One of the best guys I've dealt with - friendly, big hearted, even drove down to my place all across the map to sell his guitar to me

Cheers!
