We have to bear in mind that we are all human beings with brains to analyse and see for ourselves the daily issues. Not to mention those with intelligence, intellectual mindset and integrity, even those who are in the lowest ranking category could tell what is/is not justifiable, right and wrong.

The changes to the rezoning, almagamation of constituencies boundaries without prior dialogue with the oppositions is one which I consider a total disregard to the oppositions.

Anyways...

Erection is very important to all us. Not only doing it but how its put up. All should stand up and be counted. It is nationhood and a country coming of age. The show to show the world. Our size and passion for things we call our own. Blah, blah, blah...

As always, I get extremely excited during this period. Can't miss it. Comes only once in five years. Can't say exactly what and why for now. We cannot kiss and tell. Perphaps after the fact....

of course.

only joking.

What i meant is, why should the oppo talk bout stuff like that? I mean, in singapore what i'm really worried about is whether i can get a job without losing it to some foreigner, or whether i'll be able to provide for my family even with that job, since the prices of everything seem to be rising all the time and the only people who can live comfortably are those with big paychecks.

World Issues will affect the job market. terrorism in other countries will affect the world economy in one way or other. And that will affect the job market and cost of living. As for losing ur job to a foreigner is due to the globalisation, other countries are rising up, with equally qualified talent at a cheaper rate. So everything is linked, we do not live in isolation from the other world, we will be affected in one way or other. You have to look at the big picture.

My point is, telling the opposition what to do is wrong in my opinion. They have their own concerns to bring up, and PAP can talk about what they want to talk about.

a little offtopic but anyway.

has anyone gone to any of the election rallies? i went to go see the PAP at serangoon stadium (only cos its nearest) but they cancelled it due to rain. the potong pasir SDA rally was amazing, the spirit and connection the people had with their MP was inspiring. they were chanting 'potong pasir! chiam see tong! potong pasir! chiam see tong!' endless times when he arrived. i was at the WP rally today and it was incredible. there mustve been at least 10 000 ppl. traffic was slow-moving and the lobbies of the facing block was all full of ppl. except i didnt understand half the speeches made cos they were in mandarin and hokkien.

oh. and i overheard some ppl talking about how the PAP almost always only scrutinises and criticises the opposition about what they should do and what they are doing wrong, but they almost never talk about their own plans. what do you think?

I'm not sure if this should be in here, but I'll add my thoughts. James, if it's too controversial, just edit my post.

PAP:
Blowing up the James Gomez issue is a bad move imo. 2 days, bombing by the PAP MPs, remarks about accountability and transparency, apologising is not enough... We do remember "honest mistakes" as well, fyi.

PM's remarks on opposition writing blank cheques: I might have heard wrongly, that was how I hear on TV. Does the PM have any evidence of the opposition writing blank cheques? Am I hearing things?

Opposition:
Am disappointed that Chiam See Tong of the SDA says the opposition is there for "check and balance" only. I think the MPs are at the very least, obligated to work and deliver for people if they are voted in. Chicken and egg yes - you need to get voted in to be able to help, but you need to at least lay out your plans to deliver for people. At the very least, even when PAP uses HDB/lift upgrading as an election issue, they do deliver.

I haven't attended a rally yet - I should really. Perhaps the PAP were attacking the opposition at the rallies - seriously I would rather they outline their plans for improving the economy etc. To their credit, they are doing a lot to try and improve the livelihood of Singaporeans.

Mr Chiam deserves to remain in his seat for his tenacity, heart, and achievements in the face of overwhelming odds.

what is the value of having opposition party?

i mean, if we feel anything not right, we CAN voice it out.

if the opposition party become the ruling party, would that make PAP the opposition party?

lastly, i urge SOFTies to involve themselves in community work, this is where you will see the real problems in the community and the organisation that runs it.

James: The same value as that of any other democracy.

We can voice, but opinions are not always accepted. The current PAP government is, to its credit, in general a good government in my opinion. However, no one should presume that good governments will last forever. The whole notion of democracy is to prevent poor governments from holding to their place, as and when it happens.

I will definitely make the PAP looks petty by bombing WP & JG continuously. You think the PAP don't know that? There's a lot of tactical play during elections by every paty involved. The very purpose for JG & SL at the elections department was to submit that form for minority candidate, and he was seen filling in the form. What would you do if you are JG's? Will you fill the form halfway and then put it into the bag? That is what the PAP believes that no sensible, responsible person would do that. I put myself into that shoe and asked, "will I do that?" I have to honestly tell myself that though I do commit many honest mistakes but not this kind. I don't do to the bank to deposit say $0,000 cash, fill the forms, put the money into my bag and later go back to the cashier and accused the cashier of taking my money, insisting I deposited the cash. It is a very serious accusation to the cashier, and to the bank's reputation. I believe that is the stand of the PAP and they think there could be some mischief or there are things in the form that JG could not honestly fill in. Honest mistakes can be forgiven and forgotten, but some other things cannot. So be patient and wait and see if there are things to be unfold. Let's watch and see.

I do agree JG should apologize to the elections department.

If the mistake can't be forgiven, then what should JG do? Withdraw? So the whole WP withdraws from Aljunied?

The jucidary or the elections department can press charges against JG if they deem it to be that serious.

I'm not standing for JG's mistake. What I'm trying to say is that by incessantly harping on the JG issue, it's not going to be as important as what is at hand. Say just today on the new paper, the top two issues in concerned by the people is the cost of living and job security in a survey of 150.

Election tactics will always be part and parcel. What I'm saying is that this tactic might just backfire on the PAP.

The JG Affair :

The WP : It's just a simple matter. It's a peanut mistake. Let's move on.

The PAP : It's not so simple. There may be something more to it. Let's get to the bottom of it.

Two extremely different call to the public. How would you respond?

The sympathetic... Let's forgive and forget
The inquisitive... Let's find out more
The apathetic...None of my business

Who are you..the sympathetic, the inquisitive or the apathetic? How does each of this response affect the GE, your vote, yourself?

Hmm. Just noticed. I'm not referring to just another honest mistake. The "honest mistake" I'm referring to is the SingTel-IDA saga involving $388million in payment.

Interestingly, this draws parallels as to some reasons why Thaksin was under so much pressure to step down as well.

Interested forummer can google up the info on both issues.
