I started seriously listen classical about two years ago when my friend borrows me a set of classical CDs. so I started listen classical after I already a "musical" listener from rock, metal to pop,r/b... I think this is make us better appreciate classical music rather than a not so "musical" person immediately try to listen to beethoven's symphony no.5 .

But seriously everytime I play a very popular pieces like everything by Strauss or Mozart, still a lot of work-mate will complain and ask to change it to popular music... what do you think about this? is it classical music really not a down to earth music?

are u like classical also? i like everything more in classical and baroque era, with good harmony/contra point like Bach,Haydn,Bocherrini,Spohr and Mozart. I not really into romantic pieces and absolutely have no idea what Listz's and the twelve tone technic/atonal really are... too complicated..

might be easier for me to understand you if the english was slightly more comprehensible. But yes, I love classical music! Baroque violin owns modern violin anyday! Vivaldi's also a god

nothing's wrong with classical music. nothing's wrong with people who request you to play popular music either.

from the above, we can see that classical isn't popular, that's all. people are reserved to have their own preferences anyways (:

yes. there is nothing wrong with classical. altho, you may be passed off as trying to 'act class and aloof' by listening to classical. (i got that a couple of times)

but just play whatever the general public likes and enjoy classical music in the comfort of your own home. unless of course, you want to be public enemy no. 1.

i personally like chopin cos of his nocturnes and paganini. :)

There's nothing wrong with it. Although i'm into metal and all, i like listening to classical/orchestra/opera.

hehe sorry for the loussy english... or singlish..

yes, it is an unpopular music to play along in office. a kind of boring for some pieces, but yeah, the classical guys were one hell musician...

Nothing wrong with classical music and nothing wrong with your English. I understood everything!

bro hydrofly needs some lurv :-D

At this point in time, classical music isn't popular music. Popular music, by simple definition, means music that is popular - that the masses/majority prefer.

But classical music is beautiful! And it's not just the entire orchestra thingy but 'smaller' pieces can be appreciated and played on 'popular' instruments and given an entire new vibe/feel without loosing the original intent.

Classical music RoCKs! Lots of music from different musical genres RoCK!

But not everyone is open to all genres of music.

Music is about being in a state of mind! Being, staying and getting 'lost' within that state of mind. We have many minds. Many have closed minds. A few have no minds. Others prefer landmines.

We human beings RIKES to be comfortable. And to be comfortable, musically, we RIKES to listen to what we usually listen.

Enjoy your music but don't expect others to enjoy it as you do.

I don't fault people for bad english, mine is nothing close to good either. I tried my best to understand what he said either way. Classical music is probably unpopular because of it's supposedly 'nose-up-in-clouds' connotations, along with people not really understanding it and whatnot.

No worries bro hydrofly, hopefully TS wasn't too taken aback.

Classical music shouldn't be taken as high-nosed music. If that's the case, then jazz music/musicians should be seen as even higher-nosed, based on thoughts from a few. But to me, country music guitar players are even more obscrure and as such can be seen as higher-ups, elitists if you must, and flamenco guitar players ROCK everyone else! Well almost! :D

It's music.

It's all a state of mind.

Listen to it. Play it. It is that which you want to be within. If listening to or playing to a certain type of music can make you feel like you are 10-feet tall then so be it.

But like all music, eventually, they stop playing. Albeit even for a while - if you must.

Then you are on your own. Another state of mind. What are you going to do then?

by a rising of baby-mozart things, classical music is now more accessible and even more popular as a "clever" music.

which is a good things to me.

when my wife pregnant she also have this euphoria to have a CD of mozart to listen. so in the end I can have an "excuses" to spend to buy a classical CD. ;)

aaah this issue has been raised.

one thing. EVEN MUSIC HAS TRENDS!

play classical in the 19th century. its appreciated much more.
rock and roll 50s and 60s
dance, disco in the 70s
back to rock, metal in 80s
boybands in 90s
00s? i dont know.

but its never wrong to have ur own opinion.but influence is undenyably strong.

How about a fusion? Apocalyptica attempts to take on metal using their cellos, and they have created a beautiful masterpiece, a blend between classical and metal..

maybe your workmates are elitists, and think classical music like Mozart and beethoven are overplayed. try something a little more obscure like some Shostakovich or Gustav Holst, or maybe female composers like Galina Ustvolskaya or even Clara Schumann. That'll show 'em!

There's nothing wrong with classical music. Of course.

I enjoy symphonic pieces once in awhile. Let's just say that not everyone can appreciate classical music.

popular music stinks xD (my opinion) classical music is soothing and the cooler end of music, can say. But i also listen to metal and extreme ones, the OTHER end of music.. can say i am a musical "extremist" (if the term exist hahaha).. i jus don't listen to what's in the middle. just listen to what u like, don't care about what other people say =D.

i even listen to surf rock xD industrial metal.. as long as ppl dont listen to them, i listen~ my motto haha!
