Claire Chun - pianist/singer/songwriter

When i first listened to her music, its really something new, something i've never heard before. Not your usual corrinne may or any singaporean pianists. Very interesting music and lyrics.

You can check out her songs here: http://www.myspace.com/clairechun

Basically we conceptualised a shoot and this was one of the photo in the series in which i was the photographer/logistics/bellboy/post-processing bao ka liao. hahaha...

She'll be having a gig around august and i guess more details will be up by then. Hope you guys enjoy her music as much as i do.

Cheers!
jackson

ps: im not like her manager or anything like that, just that i really enjoy her music and feel she deserves it. :) and of course to show what i actually offer in my shoots as well ah..hahaha

cool pic, especially on the setup/props. the skin tone looks really weird though.. I don't think it's the lighting.

99.9 % Tori AMos influenced..even the piano playing...COOL!!!!!!

IF I just listen....I would have thought it Tori...

Thks for introducing.....cause I enjoy Tori Amos style music a lot...

(hi james! :) )

yea, i'm tentatively gigging at earshot on Aug 2nd... will probably post about that when things are more confirmed and the date is nearer.
jackson is super cool to work with! i liked brainstorming ideas with him and he's been v accomodating. talented up-and-coming photographer that isn't hard to communicate with...
as for skintone... heheheh the whole makeup business was a tremendous amount of effort/headache. jackson was thinking 'colourful eyes' and i roped in my aspiring makeup-artist friend to do the makeup for the shoot; it was her first time doing this sort of makeup. i don't think i've ever worn so much foundation in my life, but it was all an interesting experience. :)
(and i liked being with the white phone...)

Ah I see... Thanks for your valuable insight and enlightenment then, Leanne C. I'm sure that without your great words of wisdom, we would all be none the wiser about Claire Chun's apparent mediocrity and marketability. We have all been enlightened by your keen insight and valuable commentary, which would be most helpful to aid Claire Chun in her savage quest to 'top the charts', as you so eloquently put. From the bottom our hearts. we thank you for this top-notch, biting criticism, and humbly request for you to grace these forums with more of them.

hullo,
thanks for all the, uh, opinions here :) i actually agree with Leanne C on the 'average musician' bit; will freely admit i am average lah, to sum it up. as for topping the charts - i can't really say that's my ambition actually... at this point, as long as i manage to write some songs that i (and my future children, and any of those close/dear to me) value and think are good (in the sense that they express precisely what i intend for them to express), i think i'll die happy. not saying i've written those songs yet, but that i'm going to keep on trying to get there. and music (to me, anyway) is really a lifelong process... so hopefully i've got many more years to improve and work on it as a craft.

as for the 'average photo' bit... eh do give jackson a break; i don't know much about photography (or visual art for that matter) but i personally thought he was good for someone who had previously photographed nothing but landscapes ;) and i'm v grateful to anyone who appreciates my music stuff and wants to help me in any way.

blank: i don't think i know Leanne C personally... or rather, the only person i know called leanne is my sister, and she says it isn't her posting on SOFT here. :)

at any rate - i'm gigging at Earshot Cafe (at the Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane) on 2nd August, 7.30pm. and the amazing Koffkoff (http://myspace.com/koffkoff) is doing a guest set too. am very honoured and excited to be sharing gig space with him. i'll try to make it a good set, although to be honest i haven't played much piano or written over the past year or so (to put it briefly, i've been sick). any suggestions/requests for cover songs are welcome as well. :)

well, i think her music is something new that've heard so far. :) im enjoying it...apparently you don't, which is ok as we're all entitled to our own opinions...

I believe as long as you are enjoying what you do, you will take it far with your passion alone. I like what shes doing for her music and i don't like the way you are putting people down.

that aside, im looking forward to watch her in action. :)

ps: i wish people would elaborate on why they feel certain things doesnt sound right or look right. I wish they could be more helpful. But then again, talk is cheap.

It is good..but if you have listen to enough music...there is nothing new about her music...people had done it before that way...maybe not here in Singapore....but in the states where all the roots came from....

yeah it has been done before. thats the problem with modern music nowadays isnt it? almost everything has already been done before. dont see anything wrong with that, im still young, i'll probably get sick after a few more decades

I think it was pretty cool of ya to use handphone for your instrument, and, i kinda like the "ring" and feel to your music. Most prolly see me there for your upcomming gig. As for the photo, I like the way saturated tones was used, gives u kinda the warmth feeling doesn't it, I guess it kinda compliments to your music. Good luck anyway ^^.
