Changing title of posts.

I suggest not to change titles of posts just because the moderator thinks that he can offer a better title.

And yes know the rules say the moderators have the final say. In that case , I request that they put (changed by "moderator's name) after they change it so that it is not misrepresented as something the original poster wrote.

Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestion but title/post/thread are moderated to make the site more efficient. It is not a matter of creative expression or who writes a better title but just easier for users to know what is the thread's content going to be.

I would rather you delete my post if you don't agree with the title rather than changing it and letting people believe that it is my own words. That is grossly misleading.

Which post/thread would you like me to remove? Just paste the link here and I will remove them.

I've got to take indianstallion's side in this. It's understandable if you're changing a title/thread/posts with explicit content. Also understandable if you don't want people using vulgarities etc.

But, just to make the site more efficient? I know that's good in a way, makes for quick reading. But forumers can choose to either ignore the thread totally because they can't be bothered what the content is, or they might be curious and click it. It'll only waste us a couple of seconds if we click on an ambiguous thread title and find the content boring and click to go back out into the main board.

I also understand that you're a moderator and that you have the right to do whatever you want with this site. So yea, this is just a suggestion. :)

Quite a bit of criticism for SOFT nowadays...interesting...

Just out of curiosity...

What was the original thread's title

What was it changed to?

Just wanna what the fuss is about!!

'what a way to go

I think it is important to have titles that reflect the content of the thread well. What happens when thread title is something like

"check this out!"
"look here"
"what a way to go"
"wtb"
"wts"
"ha,,ha.."

Original title 'Did they get off too easy? (Please don't change my title)"

Edited title "Lucky draw winners fined. Did they get off too easy?"

Maybe the suggestion would make more sense if the OP could point out what he found in the new title that did not correctly reflect the old title....or why he was offended...

It's the fact that you are changing what someone else says. If you feel a need to edit what other people say then you ought to put some indication that it has been edited. Otherwise you are misrepresenting that person.

Thank you widdly, that's exactly what I mentioned in my first post. You want to change it , fine, you have complete control over this site, i can live with that. But let people know that you did change it so that they know that it has been changed and it does not reflect the original poster's words.

But apparently that is still too much to ask!

indianstallion, no problem, i will add that to your post.

Is it ok if I put

Original title 'Did they get off too easy? (Please don't change my title)"

Edited by SOFT to "Lucky draw winners fined. Did they get off too easy?"

Yes thank you that would be awesome.

Ok, done.

I hope all users will title their thread properly to make it clear what the thread's content is about. It will definitely help searching and browsing the forum easier.

I believe James' intention is valid and I support it. I would appreciate a thread title which is specific. That's just my opinion.

Maybe it would help if everyone didnt attack James for every single thing and just PM'd him....after all he is doing us a service....some gratitude would be good...

I read the posts in the old thread and this one...and it was quite clear that this was not meant nor conveyed as constructive feedback.....
