change of pickups

what do you think it would sound like if i put SD Alnico Pro 2 (neck+bridge) in a ibanez jem? sounds bizzarre but i am serious on this question

Its sacrilege!

wah.... razarash... u use emgs as well...
well.. okay... i dont dare say emg has the best cleans around... but to say its strictly for metal... er.... i really have to disagree...

if i am not mistaken... steve lukather uses emg single coils...

not to say we must follow artist... but... most people choose emg/ seymour duncan jb pickups are usually metal heads... hence people label them as metal pickups... sure.. they sound really hot... but u will be surprised how responsive they can be...

u are using a sg... mahagony body right... one thing for sure... emgs will sound out of the world on it... trust me...( i am not here to promote emgs... but i just wanna clear the air bout the pickups... cos most people have different ideas about it)

to supplement razarash.. i let u try my washburn... equiped with emg single coils and a 85...

For one thing, you can't beat a real hand wound pup like the HAS pups or Bare Kuckles.

They sound different, sort of alive.

And yeah, I thought the Dimarzio Breed neck was responsive. I thought the Tonezone was responsive. Man, i thought WRONG. The Viper killed them all.

In anycase, I am yet to be won over by EMGs. Never impressed by the sound they give.

can i have some sound clips of emgs please! hm.. it's either that or the evos? or the setup on subversion's sg. i have to listen to decide.

so, anyone willing to provide some sound clips? (:

I find emg 60 (neck) cleans really nice. You can ask jason (war Ensemble). I've heard him live and for once i tot it was some good gear he was using. Then i saw a usa Bc Rich with EMG 81 60.

Before you go into EMGs do try them. Sound is but 1 factor. The other equally important factor is how the pup interacts with your playing. Kind of pointed to grab Evos if you are a blues man right? ;) Sounds good, works wrong.

hydrogenecide, i'm using emg's on an rg 550, not an sg... i dont even own an sg, as much i would like to own one... and yes, steve luthaker uses emg single coils.. i know cuz i'm using a slv single coil in the mid position of my rg.. setup is emg's 81-slv-85...

but in all, emg's excel for metal, but if u use a 50k vol and tone pot, it does clean up really well if u turn down the volume and tweak ur tone knob abit.. also depends on ur playing and what effects u use...

but he;; , burny vh1 pickups in a MIK epi lp standard plus means total sonic ownage... for classic and hard rock... way more powerful than i expected...

let's say if i want an emg 81 in the bridge. but for more versatility i decide to put an alnico pro 2 in the neck. would it work?

Damn a lil off topic ah sorry..
Cant access the dimarzio webbie!
Wanted to have a look at some dimarzio pups as i know very little about them..
Btw shredcow where did you get your viper from?
Bridge right?

cool stuff razarash... tell u.. when u change ur stirings... u might wanna try changing positions of ur 81 and 85... haha... 85 at the bridge sounds wonderful as well...

like wat ark said can have sound. usable or not is another issue altogether.

hm... okay so basically the pickups won't interfere with each other when used on their own? i guess i wont be able to use both pickups together, right? but there'll still be quality sound if i only select one individual pickup.

i believe the addition of a EMG PA2 in the signal path of the passive pickup will allow u to connect it to a active circuit. its been done by quite alot of people, in fact, alot of them order the pa2 without the switch, and set the trim pot for always on to allow the passive pickup to match the level of the EMG. of course, the sound of the passive pickup will be altered. most likely just plain louder.

btw, i have Duncan Custom5/ Alnico II Pro- blues + high gain with ease...

hey is it alright if i use the alnico II pro witha rosewood fretboard? cause it says on the site that it "Works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards" so i wanna know whether it'll be dumb to use it with a rosewood one.

thanks :D
