change of pickups

hi.

I'm currently using a sg standard and i'm pretty dissatisfied with the stock pickups cause they are a little too muddy, especially when i play chords on distortion.

i'm looking for a big in-your-face kind of sound for my bridge, while retaining clarity and articulation in moderate to high gain situations. and for the neck, something that sounds like tremonti clean would be nice.

any suggestions? (: thanks. i did some research online and i found the SH-2 jazz model for neck and for bridge i'm not really sure, there are so many options. i havent checked out dimarzio and other brands.

i like how the x2n looks, and the description (: but i'm kinda scared to buy it on impulse. are we actually allowed to try pickups?

thanks man, i'll go take a listen. it's difficult to get the right pickups you want on the first try huh. brrr frustrating.

Haha..... next time go to the emporium... and ask the sales auntie. "Auntie, auntie..... I want to buy these ter kor's and nei nei pok's, but dunno if they are comfortable or not. Can I try them on first??"

Eh....or can you actually try them :?

i mean, since they cost a hundred bucks or more a piece, it's pretty frustrating if you get one which sounded right for you on sound clips, but actually has a tone which sounds miles apart from what you want!

but thats just the way it is. you cant try everything out first! haha sorry for the dumb question.

any other suggestions? neck pup? anyone has experience with the sh2 jazz? i'll just listen to more sound clips and decide from there (:

EMG's pretty lifeless... on the cleans. It's not particularly bright, and you get a little bit of warmth sometimes. On drive though, you can feel the power cut through, especially on the higher strings.

The EMG pickups haven't changed fundamentally for many years, which can be either a good or bad thing. Methinks R&D wise, they're a bit of a swamphole..

hm.... i think i heard that they sound kinda lifeless? prove me wrong. haha

'lifeless' isn't quite it. active pickups manifest very little of your guitar's inherent resonance/ characteristics.

btw, i have Duncan Custom5/ Alnico II Pro- blues + high gain with ease...

NO you CANNOT try pups. Its one of the most ridiculous things I've heard.

It's not ridiculous. Well... at least in US. Seymour Duncan has 21-day return policy, if you stay in US.

EMGs are for metal ... period...

Daryl...just see what kind of gear some of your fav players use....I just got myself some EVOs.... 8) ..In your face pickups all the way...(although a Viper taunts in the background  )

Hi, which sg standard yr year is made in? My sg standard had too much treble instead. anyone know how burstbuckers sound?

i dare u to say they are lifeless after u play my rg.. its not just about the sound, its how u play it that gives ur music character... but on cleans, a lil, muddy, a lil sterile, but with distortion, pinch harmonics are easily possible, with good articulation on single notes... kinda wall of sound effect.. but yeah.. personal preference...

i'd beg to differ. and i'd like to ask, have u tried them personally and tweaked settings/whatever first hand? if yes, which models? emgs seem to excel in metal, but they can handle pretty much any other genre with ease. much like the various brands and models of pickups.

imo, what you said could be equated with something along the lines of "the seymour duncan invader is for punk rock only (tom delonge)" but thats not true, is it?

what do you think it would sound like if i put SD Alnico Pro 2 (neck+bridge) in a ibanez jem? sounds bizzarre but i am serious on this question
