how many of you like the following bands?

1. VNV Nation
Don't like the vocals, not very much into futurepop anyway. They were famous long before they supported nitzer though....

2. Covenant
First 3 albums good. After that, downhill. Daniel Myer from Haujobb is now a member of Covenant, so maybe things will improve..?

3. London After Midnight
Gothic is not for me.

4. Nitzer Ebb
Of course, legends ! Even though they just ripped off DAF. The real roots of ebm are DAF and 242 from 1981-1983.

5. Noisex
Boring. His DKF side-project is much better. There are many power noise bands a lot better than noisex like imminent, winterkalte, converter etc...

Are there any clubs in Singapore for ebm/industrial ?

PS: Be careful using the term 'industrial'. There are 2 meanings:

1) the proper meaning, which began in sheffield in the 1970s with bands like throbbing gristle, cabaret voltaire, monte cazaza, leather nun etc etc and then spawned many similar genres which are still present today in labels like cold meat industry, susan lawly, tescorg etc. Experimental/noise basically.

2) the wrong meaning, which unfortunately has become accepted now, which comes from America in the early 1990s, and refers to rock bands that use some electronics like NIN, manson etc

Both terms are in use, but 1) is the truth !!

EBM who are you. That's one of the most impressive (and thoroughly accurate comments) I've seen anyone make in soft about our genres. If I'm not mistaken, its you anthony, isnt it

(oh yes, you are right about throbing gristle et al about the definition of industrial and not rock with samples that seem to be the widely accepted)

how about you come down to the chalet?

Hi Saito,

No, I am not Anthony, sorry...

Although it is very annoying that people call nin, mmanson, kmfdm, and these kind of bands industrial, it has become so widely used now that it's almost not incorrect anymore. But nevermind. The important thing is not to try to make these people change (because they won't), but at the very least to make them realise the truth about this word, by giving a little bit of history...

The americans labelled the aforementioned bands 'industrial' because they always need to have some latest trend or scene to hope to cash in on. Because these alternative hard rock bands incorporated a little electronic noise, they decided that industrial was the closest fit. So they stole the term. The real industrial movement is 100% against these kind of things - commercialism, fashion, fame.....

What is the chalet? I'm interested in finding ebm/industrial (true!) clubs and events here in Singapore. Are there any such?

All the best.

EBM- I'm the only person that does "ebm/industrial (true!) clubs and events here in Singapore." unfortunately, and collectively with the rest of SDAM we've been trying to push the culture.

I met anthony (ADX) over the weekend- so who are you? haha

looking at 18/19 but it could be the following weekend. Everyone just puts their name on it, but only one guy has actually confirmed

Saito,

I am free 18th/19th and also the following weekend.
What is this event you are holding? A nightclub? A gig?

Also can you give directions to the chalet?

Regards.

wow, i haven't heard throbbing gristle in awhile now. niceeeee

hmmm... is fields of nephelim considered gothic or somethin? from gehenna to here was good.

oh yeah i forgot...gary numan!! he's got my vote. :D

dirtchamber700,

FLA are still very much active. The studio albums are still good enough (better than most stuff in that scene these days), but live they are now terrible. I saw them twice last year and both times the show was flat, no energy. When I saw them in the 1990s (particularly the caustic grip tour in 1991) it was incredible, it had edge and atmosphere and a lot of aggression... good times then...

well glad to hear that they are still at it! i never saw them live before tho. :(

yeah, these days can't really appreciate much in the industrial scene no more. not saying that what mm (altho manson's score in resident evil wasn't that bad) and nin are doing is not good (i still respect and have their stuff) it's just different i guess.

anything new to recommend? :D

New music or new bands? There are always lots of new bands, but really no new music for a long time in this scene ;-)

new music from old bands!

it's quite sad to find out that there aren't much nice/new industrial stuff these days.

my friend was raving about this band called dopestars inc. couple of months ago. they seem like a very 'jap'-ed up version of marilyn manson. hahaha quite amusing

VNV Nation is an iconic EBM band, and ronan himself coined the genre "futurepop". One of my favorites
