Buying a guitar Nid help (:

i still haven gotten a recoomendation for a jap strat :(

First, decide the kind of sound you like. Name a few guitarists you like. Do you want to emulate their tones? or do you want to go your own regardless?

Most guitarists these days publicly use Rosewood Fretboard guitars. If you like that look, and sound, then go for a 62 strat. This would give you something a bit mroe mellow, and darker. If you want something else (Maple), then go for the 57 strat. This would be brighter, and more trebly.

Go to Guitar 77, ask for both. Go molest the neck for a while. grip it. see which one feels more comfortable. (there's a difference in both). the 62 is "C", and the 57 is "V". Nevermind if you can't play. Wrap your hand around the neck at as many positions on the neck as you can. Twist your hand around and feel the spine of the "V" shape and the shoulders of the "C" shape. See which you like better.

Then decide for yourself.

To most people who start out, the 62 would be more comfortable in terms of shape and sound. Maple necks and the tone is a bit more of an individual preference. My own fetish is either Maple, or Ebony. Also, for the CIJ guitars, the finish is sprayed OVER the frets for the maple necks, which means a vintage (low height) fret neck will feel almost fretless. The rosewoods, on the other hand, have no finish on the fretboard, so they're more prominent. Another reason why many prefer Rosewood.;)

Get an ibanez!!! its more versatile (correct me if im wrong ) the sa260fm is has quite good tone.. (tried b4 ) :D

sorry mister M.I.A but i was mia for a while..
the 62 is not an mia strat but a cij one instead..
*sorry pun madness*
pricewise should be 1.1-1.3k if im not wrong?
go check it out?
plus the 62 has Texas specials pickups i think..

Hmmm........well have u heard ppl playing metal with a strat? I have heard ppl playing country on an Ibanez solidbody w/ dual hums b4. And it sounded gd. I define a strat as having 3 single coils.......no fat strats.......that cheating!

Iron Maiden? Yngwie Malmsteen? Not stratty enough? BEFORE the fat strat came out. And besides, the reason why I still advocate the strat as being mroe versatile than an Ibanez is that most Ibanezes today come with pups direct mounted. The strats (if you know which ones to buy), come with either SSH routing, or swimming pool routs. Who says a strat MUST be SSS? heheheh...

o.O interesting thanks for educating me :) bro loldude why u say using a fat strat = cheating? is it better than standard strats?

cause maybe strats have always been (and will always be) associated with single coils and SSS configurations..
a fat strat is considered "cheating" by loldude333 probably because it diverts from the traditional config with the Humbucker offered..

But in the 80s, strats began coming with humbuckers, thanks to none other than Richie Sambora, Iron Maiden, etc etc.

But something heavy in the 60s on SSS? Deep Purple...

I dunno why many people think a strat can't be used to sound heavy... Whoever thinks this should go try a strat fitted with Kinman Woodstocks... ouch... There's one in Guitar Connection now... (I think it's sold, but the guitar is still there.) Should go check it out.

Then why put P90s on a Les Paul?

hm i'm not sure, but it was discussed before. p90's arent like strat single coils... they're rough, in ur face, and something... edder mentioned. fatter as well. coupled with a les paul body, u get... something obese?
