BOSS DD-20 or Line6 DL4

Hi All,
Looking for a good delay pedal and choosing from these 2. Looking to have some simple build in looper with reverse and a wide variety of delay sound ranging from tube to those digital sounding.

Any advise? Thanks

Hi there, I've tried both, and I currently own the DD20.

For me the main importance was that whatever delay pedal I use, the last thing I want it to do would be to alter and color my tone. I felt that the DL4 did that, I always heard a slightly volume drop when I kicked it on. No such problem to my ears so far with the DD20.

Another consideration was the footprint of the pedal. The DL4 is pretty damn huge and oddly shaped. The DD20 has a nice compact footprint, probably about the same size as two boss pedals put side by side.

But I must say that if you're looking for tripped out spacey effects then get the DL4, there's loads of stuff you can toy around with. But if you're looking for a no nonsense delay pedal for adding texture, atmosphere, to your playing and solos, then get the DD20. You can get really quality repeats with the DD20, very rich sounding.

I love the fact that there's a display on the DD20. The analog setting on the DD20 sounds awesome as well if you're into analog delay type tones. My only gripe so far with the DD20, there are 4 patches, 5 if you count in the manual patch, you can only cycle through them in one direction.

Meaning if you go to patch 1 and then to 2, you gotta go through 3 and 4 to come back to 1. Which typically translates to quite a bit of tap dancing. Not really a problem, just something which takes a little getting used to.

All in all the DD20 imho is probably the best delay out there you can get from the sub-400 range.

Try them both and if possible try them side by side. :D

SoulJah : Next time..no..tomorrow..visit my space with DD-20..
I want to know sound^^
I want to compare my DL-4 and yours..See U^^

I was pondering over DL4 & DD20 as well & finally got the DD20..

able to store your settings into 4 memory slots (tap to switch) + all the funky modes of delay for you to experiment with :)

You are also able to see the tempo & alter it via the knob (fine tuning @ its best).

Thanks

Thanks all for the comment. I was actually leaning more to the DD-20 too.... hmmmm... time to spend....evil

Neither, wait for this:

:D

Of the 2 i picked the DD20 for my uses. Cleaner digital repeats and dotted 8th tap tempo was what I really needed and the DL4 had neither. Readouts and other bonuses were a huge plus.

from what i heard, the dl4 has reliability issues, many people complain about it falling apart, switches failing.

for the boss dd-20, its like most of its brother pedals, built like tanks, and i can safely say its not gona have switches failing that quickly.

It's got 9 presets. And look at the delays it has, everything the dd20 has and more. Big display screen and all. Plus a built in tap tempo switch.

The modulation on repeats and the ability to tweak the mod style looks very promising. I'm really looking forward to that one.

I'm only hoping the reverse delay is better than the dd20's one. That's one thing i didn't like about the dd20.

One minus point. I think it runs on 12V or 18V, i forget. But it's not 9V. Sigh.

Oh, and it doesn't look like it has any looping capabilities.
