Hi...after looking at the pics... i would recommend complete rebuild using new board, wires and parts....which can be purchased from eg ceriatone....that way your amp can be called *refurbished* then there will be an amazing tone enhancement ..... and that reverb transformer ...pls get a proper and definitely needs to be mounted on chasis ! It risky if just *half done* ...
(do you know that oxide build up on wires and connectors contribute to tone loss , arching and sometimes noise)
What i would do ...is the *long way* of removing everything to bare chasis, clean and rebuild to spec with whatever new possible :wink:

hey goose, haha complete rebuild! That'll take awhile.. its possible though...at the moment we'll probably just straighten out that reverb transformer, change the bias cap and some of the other resistors as well as tidy up some loose ends like what John and Mike recommended and we're almost there. The amp has great tone already to my ear..

Look at long term ... for one week of pain you get lifetime *safe* and good tone! :wink:

That warped board does not contribute to tone and posses possible breakdown and those old wires may become intermittant ! Just my 2c 8)

Please dont get annoyed Indigo ...i guess with your dad having time in hand ..a complete rebuild will be nice ! Maybe give it a break for a bit ...then get a quote for new parts ....etc

Honestly Ed ...for ol' amps i would rather do a complete rebuild than to entertain countless returns !

I have so far refused x2 repairs on ol'amps ....

I am not the only one ...as one of the owner consulted an overseas amp tech and got the same answer

Nah, no need complete rebuild lah. I've had the amp for more than a year now and its been good. Just itchy fingers trying to improve things abit. I've never had any problems with the reverb but just for completeness sake I think change the reverb transformer better. I've been always slightly bothered about how it looked sitting inside the chassis anyways.

After doing up the caps and the resistors I'll probably get a new set of matched SEDs and see how it sounds.. Muahahahaha!

Hey guys (goose and edder and gang), quick update, my twin is all fixed up now!

Here are the new pics..

This is a bottom shot of the new reverb transformer. Oh my! I didn't know what I was missing! The reverb is mucho lusher now!

This is a shot of the pre-amp section. Notice the new bypass caps (black color).. all the tone caps are new orange drops.

This is a shot of the PI/Power section.. its been substantially cleaned up if you compare it to the old photos.. All the extraneous caps and wiring from the silverface have been removed completely. The voltage selector switch has been completely bypassed for safety reasons. The extra transformer leads have been properly insulated. The bias cap has also been replaced with a new one.

This is a nice overall shot of the innards now..

Tone-wise I couldn't be happier.. the amp is now like a more responsive and warmer version of the silverface sound that it once had..more sparkly too.. the bass response also came back after the last round of changes - its now very full and punchy.. I suspect it is due to the new bypass caps that we put in.

The only things left to do are to change the old baffle board and maybe if itchy then change the speakers to new ones.. the old baffle board is peeling off at the top right corner due to moisture I think.. the speakers are still 'ok' but maybe abit tired. Maybe can change out the powertube sockets also.. abit old.

Hey Kenneth, if you have time can drop by for a spin on it.. I'm sure you'll be surprised.. I think its much better than when you tried it on National day. It'll definitely give the tweedy a run for the money.
